Forwards need to be more concerned with picking up a man on the backcheck, rather than skating back to a no mans land

Really, I would prefer someone to mark Bailey instead leaving him wide open below the dots.

How many times were all the Flyers on one side of the ice leaving a point man with all day and a clear shooting lane at the net, without a Flyers anywhere near the shooter? I'm really, really concerned with how weak the Flyers team defense is right now.

The Dan Boyle chance against the Sharks is a clear cut example.

Your right they could've got eaten alive on a few plays. And I just don't understand it because very early in the season they were paying attention to these details.

That example was glaring...guys have less time and space on penalty shots.

Agreed, but I'm a lot more concerned with the forwards getting lost then the d-men right now. The centers in particular seem lost at times in the defensive zone. The Flyers block a lot of shots, but geez they give up way too many opportunities in prime scoring locations or plain slam dunks for the opposition.

I'm not sure Rinaldo is defensive savvy enough to play a checking role with Coots and Talbot, maybe Wellwood will get another chance that JVR is out for a while.

I'll take the two points. Solid game for Bryzgalov, Meszaros, Read and a few others. Really poor play in their own end though. They continue to be a poor defensive team. The good news is that the Isles were worse defensively. Don't see any signs of the Flyers tightening up defensively.
- MJL

a lot of turnovers late, which i found especially aggravating. trying to be cute, not ice it - turns into soft clears and staying in the zone. they didn't really allow any oddman rushes and didn't give the isles any point blank chances after bryz stopped a few early in the first.

This team can't be battling to keep up and outscore teams night in and night out especially in the post season...they gotta figure it out pretty quick or else they can expect an early exit in the playoffs. Bryzgalov is playing well considering how the team is playing in front.

Its about working smarter. I can count on one hand the number of games I've been dissapointed in their effort this year. Which is the difference from the previous couple years.

Baby steps, baby steps they won tonight.

Despite the breakdowns they did their jobs at other times.
Time will tell if they figure out they have to play D until they don't.
The Flyers are not a cup winning team this year. Not unless Bryz all of a sudden becomes Bernie P.

I'm a lot more concerned with the Forwards also. They're terrible for the most part in their own end. I'm not a guy that normally puts it on the Coach. But they certainly don't look like a well Coached team defensively. I keep hearing that they're going to work on it, and watch video. But I see no signs of it improving. They basically beat the isles tonight on talent alone and some poor goaltending. Which we were on the right side of for a change. Bryzgalov was a big reason why the Flyers won tonight.

That IS something. This team does work hard, they just don't work smart most of the time. The defensive breakdowns are brutal and have been an epidemic all season.

At least Bryz seems to be getting some sort of confidence back. Maybe he does need to play a lot. I say keep riding him.

Simple concept. Start backchecking. Dont get lost in the offensive zone and forget to get back defensively.
