Dallas player had his free hand tugging on Staal on a scoring chance, no call.
- Gunner Staal

That's the way they have been calling the game all night. Same happened to malkin earlier in the game skaiting out of his own zone. He was carrying the puck too. It's painfully obvious the officiating is slipping and hooking and holding is back in vogue.

Maybe for the NHL's next trick they can take their tv contract to Sportsnet or whatever the hell that old channel was

**edit...Sportschannel. That was it. Genius move.

As bad as the refs are I always just think say to myself that its not only the pens but all teams have the same disadvantage/advantage as the other. Not saying necessarily tonight but it will even out.

Bad bad period.

I would have done the same thing Nystrom did, that's all I know. Letang needed to be more responsible, Bylsma seemed to hint at it as well.
- Gunner Staal

Yeah, I would have thrown the same hit. It's a second to second reaction and if the defensemen lowers his head just as I've comitted to the hit, well that is his fault.

Of course Bylsma wont say anything but that!! It doesnt change the fact however that someone should be paying for these kinds of hits to our stars!!! Someone said asham is tryin to fight nystrom so that tells me that the guy has no balls and wont answer the bell for what everyone with a brain knows is a dirty play. I dont care if you would do it or if so and so would do it. It's still dirty. Flat out, if cookie does that...he misses the rest of the year again and you know it. Everyone knows it!! Dirty is dirty is dirty...enough is enough is enough!!

it wasnt exactly the cleanest play but i wouldnt put it on par with some things that have occurred, like borque on backstrom earlier for instance. although i cant say im that against the notion of someone standing up for our stars.

Honestly Bylsma's reaction was not what most coaches would have said.

haha yeah i miss having someone on here who sympathizes with having to tolerate the moronic droning of flyers fans. the shut out last night at the hands of the sharks has many of them lamenting today that they did not acquire nash.
- stayinthefnnet

I was out late watching that game with some flyer fans. I just sat there and smirk (which irked them more then if I would have said something). Glorious I say.

The refs have been terrible league wide since the last wave of concussions...when giroux letang pronger sid etc etc etc all went out again... Its almost as if the clutch grab kinda crap is being allowed in an attempt to curb concussions and in lue of suspensions. The was even a good article on the pens site with orpik discussing how it seems to have changed.

although its looking more likely every day that we are going to face them in the first round, and without letang that is going to be one rough series

You missed where I said "If Letang stays upright". With Letang lowering himself he makes his head the principle point. If he stays upright Nystrom catches shoulder or chest much like Engo.

Apparently I'm wrong though because all the analysts are saying that it was dirty, I guess in the new NHL it is.

- Ben37

Letang went for the puck and got there first. Nystrom did not, he changed his point of attack once it was obvious he wasnt going to get the puck.

So he either hits the shoulder and is all good, pulls out of the contact because the puck is gone and cannot make a safe hard hit, or he continues in and hits Letang in the head, when it was quite obvious he was in a compromised position.

You watch it at full speed and you can see Nystrom make the conscious effort to ignore the puck and hit Letang, he either collects the shoulder and nothing else said, or he hits him in the head and under the current system, should at least have a word with Shanahan.

Bylsma doesnt do a lot of things like other coaches..he is pure high class...and way above the kinda thing I am suggesting. Tort's woulda ripped someone a new one though. For the record i love Disco Dan and think he is the best coach in the league and certainly dont want him to change. I am clearly just pissed off at the number of times i have to watch this with star players being chopped up and spit out in this league.

Yeah as fun as that would be it would be equally as painful to play them in the playoffs.

No doubt if Letang is gone long term it will be a big loss for the Pens, but Philly's goaltending is a nightmare. I'd take my chances against Seivgalov and Bob.
