PK and faceoffs.

Other than that he's a 4th line grinding center.

He is still going to make more than he is making now next season. Come to grips with that fact,

I was under the impression that is what you kinda want your 4th line guys to do.

Gaustad could easily be a 3rd line center. He bring alotto the table and woudl be worth 3 mill.
Besides, he makes 2.5 now, he will get a raise.

My question is, then why was he not regularly a 3rd line center in Buffalo?

I don't dispute that some idiotic team will give him a raise because they will, just hope that it is not the Buffalo Sabres for your sake.

Yea, if I was Gillis, I would tell anybody that offered me Schenn straight up for Hodgson to EFF OFF. Not w worthwhile trade for Van. Not saying Burke is upset, because I have no idea if he is, but I wouldn't be too worried about it. I'm not really expecting much from the Leafs in terms of playoff contention for another season or two. It has to start with goaltending. Let's make it happen.

Who do you want and who do you think Burke is going to target for goaltending?

He pretty much was the 3rd line center all season. He's great defensively so the 3rd line is probably the best fit for him. I don't think he's all that effective when he's put on the 4th line just to be a grinder. I think he prides himself on his defensive game and that always seems to be when he really finds his swagger. Last year we just got lucky enough that Gerbe found his offensive game while playing with Gaustad. It hasn't happened this year, but they were doing a great job shutting down the oppositions top line.

I like Gaustad, but I don't know that he's worth that kind of money. If it was a 2 year deal, I could probably handle it. 5-6 years is too long at that price being that he is already 30 years old.

A third line center looking to make 3M/yr better have a playoff goal on his resume IMO.

I think they just need to get him some confidence back. The opposition realized that if they pressure him even the littlest bit, he would turn the puck over. He was afraid of the pressure coming at him and it forced him to make bad decisions. They just need to get him to stop panicking and get his swagger back.

Judging by his reaction to the trade he had a chip on his shoulder and wasnt happy with the way he was treated here.I noticed they cut him off before he could say very much more. His arrogance was very noticable.

I didn't see any of his reaction at all. If that's how he felt, then have a nice life Grags. The way I look at it, we're so deep at that position, we don't need to wait for him to figure it out. There are plenty of guys that can jump into that spot and be successful.

^^ This. He may have been on the shutdown line, but I don't think it shoudl be considered the 4th line. They were 2nd most effective line game in game out

Well, considering that the entire teams playoff stats kinda suck I guess I can't hold that against him. But, it would be nice. Kaleta does have a playoff goal, so asking Goose to have one shouldn't be that difficult.

He basically said he was unhappy with his role here and dissapointed then began about how we expected our team to be better then and the season like he was captain or been here forever bla bla bla.Kassian sounded like he was going to cry I felt sorry for him.I think it really shocked him.Agree on the D and love our depth there.

Its not like he wasn't on the Drury/Briere teams who had good playoff success. 0 playoff goals for a guy that wants that kind of coin is, well pretty much laughable. We are talking about a 38 game sample size.

Craig Adams can't score goals to save his life. In his last 224 regular season games he has 7 goals. He has 6 goals in 73 playoff games. Goose cant have a goose egg in that area if he wants the big coin for the role he plays.

I'd rather have Paul for 3 than Tim for 4.75. Some could argue that they would rather have neither...

He is a perfect rental. To pay him 3M/yr would be allocating cap space irresponsibly.

Good teams don't have Paul Gaustad as their 3rd line center.

If we want to be legitimate, he's 4th line and no more.
