Is that you in the picture with Recchi?

I thought it was more of the fact that who ever took the picture said it was ___ with #88 Eric Lindros. Idiots

With the concussion issues, the Refs cannot make that sort of judgement call. It was a hard hit into the boards which left a player dazed and unable to get up. If they don't have enough sense to stop play for the players safety then they need their walking papers.
- JoeRussomanno

My guess is they missed the play entirely and didn't even realize what happened.

The refs let a lot go last night, on both sides. The Flyers dodged a couple of penalties that easily would have been valid calls-and it was a fairly chippy game before Vlasic's hit on Briere

you don't think there are enough ridiculous fans out there who will blame him for the loss? Come on, you've been a fan long enough to know it happens
- nastyflyergirl

Hell he was blamed in the shutout shootout loss against the Islanders. People are idiots.

I said if there was an amnesty clause added into the next CBA, that I would choose to unload Danny's contract.

That's not a glowingly positive remark.

- bradleyc4

I'd definitely use it on his first. If you're shelling out that kind of money you need it for a guy that plays all year and the playoffs. Jagr is getting the kind of contract you give up to a guy that tears it up in the playoffs. I wouldn't be surprised if he comes back next year for even less. Besides I'd rather keep the team together and add a couple pieces. Losing Briere's contract lets you do that.

Which i didnt mind.. let it have that playoff feel, even if the actual passion and speed wasnt playoff like.

JvR broke his stick over a guy late in the 3rd.. no call. Hell I think we gotta away with more than them.. just cant imagine them not seeing the Vlasic hit.. it happened where the puck was.. someone had to have seen it...

They can't miss those plays though. That hit rattled the glass and the guy was left disoriented on all fours. Shanny needs to issue suspensions to referees too.

I honestly think that a big contributor is the youth on the team. Its a good thing to have a young squad, but there are gonna be rough patches... and why wouldnt it be now that they have their trouble.. this is the toughest time of the year for the young guys. Also, by relying on youth to fill out the roster we have to hope that the vets and guys who have been there before can take it to the next level. Here are my most concerning stats...

Since 12/29/2011:

Briere(3 goals 20 games *all three in one game), Jagr (4 goals 21 games *2 in one game), G (6 goals 26 games), Reader (4 goals 26 games), Voracek (6 goals 25 games) and JvR (2 goals 11 games) have a combined 25 goals and 129 games... Putrid. Even more astounding (albeit adversely) is that the combo of Simmonds and Hartnell have 25 in 52 games.

Basically, Hartnells 13 and Simmonds 12 are the same amount as the rest of the top 9. Thats a huge problem.

The fact that Briere, Jagr and G have only combined for 13 goals since the new year is a huge problem.

The fact that Danny has had 2 or fewer shots on net in 8 of those games is a huge problem.

People have been all over Bryz this year because he is paid to be a top goalie... well where is the hate for Briere... the highest paid forward on the team?

Kimmo Timonen is renowned for his pain tolerance. But right now, the veteran All-Star defenseman looks to be quite banged up and worn down by all the difficult minutes he absorbed in the absence of Chris Pronger. Ever since the All-Star break, he has looked like he's wearing concrete skates and he's been beaten cleanly far more often than normal

I have noticed that too (not that it takes a genius).

Unfortunately, Timmo looks completely out of gas. Is there a way for him to recover before the playoffs?

I meant to comment on this earlier.. As I was reading Bills blob, and before the Timonen part I was think about how terrible he has been lately. He looks about as cooked as I have ever seen him.. Might not be a bad idea to give him a rest as much as possible..

Play him fewer minutes than 5v5.. dont let him play on the PP or PK... and if we ever have a 3 goal lead sit him.. He literally looks like his skates are on backwards and on the wrong feet.

And then in round 2 they face either boston or the rangers..... If they are 4 or 5th spot, you get 6 beating 3rd and you dont have to face the rangers til atleast the 3rd round.... and then maybe in the 1st round there is also an upset by the 7th or 8th and you get a better shot at not having to face either boston or the rangers....
- Jack-Meoff

I'd prefer to see them enter the playoffs on a bit of a winning streak as well.

In 6th Spot the Flyers would play the Jets or Florida in the first round of the playoffs. Think about it, I am happy in this spot.
- Scottie Upshall

But if they finish sixth it probably means they were pretty crappy over the remaining games.

Now someone will tell me "they sucked going into the 2010 playoffs and look what happened"!

I think that's a big part of why Coburn and he were split up last night. Lavy is trying to give him as few minutes as possible right now. He looks awful. We need him at close to full strength in April and hopefully May.

we all see the parity...its not how you are playing right now although you still need to play well enough to dance.
it's all about getting hot at the right time...see the NFL...see MLB...and never ever give the ball to Lebron if you need a clutch shot in the closing minutes of the game.

Parity is a factor, but the Flyers need to make opposing goalies work harder in certain games. Last two shutouts, both Dubnyk and Niemi played well, but they didn't really have to be great.

it just doesn't appear they have anyone that really crashes the net. I remember the Flyers crashing the net and really making contact with the opposing goalie.

They have done it at times this year, but the last two shutouts, they didn't generate a lot of second chances. Granted Niemi gave up very few rebounds, but they also didn't force him to scramble a lot.

While upsets do happen, it is preferable to enter the playoffs displaying some evidence that the players have at least practiced together a few times.

Hell even on the goal.. my first thought was that that is an interference (moving pick like ) call 70% of the time. The play where Bryz took the puck to the side/back should have been called interference on Thornton.. a few plays where Jagr had wrapped his arms around guys.. The only thing I can truly say I enjoyed was that they let it go both ways. I hate when one thing is a penalty for one team but not the other
- jak521

very true on all that you pointed out. but of course they allowed the picked that resulted in a goal whereas most of the other interference, etc prevented goals.

Didnt get a chance to watch the game last night. Final score 1-0 SJ. Looks like the Flyers did a decent job defensively and the goalie must of played well. Did they create any chances on offense?
- stveshdy

My recap...

Flyers came out extremely flat, and gave up a goal about 1:30 in. For the next 10-12 minutes Sharks won just about every battle, seemed to force turnovers at will, and really controlled the play. Oddly enough they didnt turn a ton of those turnovers into chances..

Offensively.. i thought the best line in the 1st period was the 4th line Coots centering Rinaldo and Briere.. Rinaldo had a couple of huge hits including a highlight real hit on Galiardi. The period ended with the Flyers starting to get their legs. The kinda explains the rest of the game as well.. getting their legs, but never actually having them going.

I thought Timonen looked terrible, and Carle wasnt much better (imo). The whole team seemed to just be a step off.. passes we to skates or behind guys.. Guys were colliding at different stanzas.. etc..

Bryz was phenomenal.. If he can play at that level or near that level from here on out.. and we can get some team wide consistency.. we will be scary in April/May/June
