That was the first thing I was worried about.. you can break your neck and have no really symptoms.. He went into those boards in an extremely awkward position.
- jak521

That's what I thought. He crumpled to the ice like an accordion. Orpik broke Eric Cole's neck on a similar play. Cole slowed down and stopped near the boards and Orpik pushed him from behind.

There should be no leniency when it comes to boarding guys from behind. A career can be ended, and a player can end up in a wheelchair as a quadriplegic.

Rest in peace Don Cornelius.

And while I'm at it, same for The Monkee's Davy Jones.

It actually happens more than some would think. Basically, when you break your neck (medical term fx cervical vertebrae) you can do so with out doing damage to the spine. When you damage the spine is when you often suffer paralysis. It is possible to fx your spine and not suffer a subluxation type injury.. The problem then becomes a support issue. You need proper bracing and treatment. I have heard of instances where people suffer an injury and dont find out for weeks that they have a broken neck.

Pain will certainly be present, but its something you wanna monitor.. In your case it sound more like a muscle strain... The neck is loaded with muscles.

Perfect example...

EDIT: And I agree. If there is video evidence of that "pushing motion" from behind.. automatic suspension. In my opinion its a more serious issues than the "head shots"

yea I definitely think it was a muscle strain then cause my head kind of just whipped but i did hear a little pop but that could have just been a normal crack you head when your neck adjusts

i really don't feel much pain any more and it went down each day

thanks for the info was a big help

Typically those pops are muscles or ligaments loosening and then tightening at an extreme rate of speed.. Think of folding a belt in half and holding it at both ends.. move your hands towards each other and then pull apart quickly.. you hear that snap or pop. Sometimes its tendons rolling over bone... but very rarely is it actual bone making that noise.

Couldn't agree more with you. Eventually someone is going to be paralyzed. No way around it. If severe fines and suspensions were put in place, it would go along way to deter a player from doing it.

Also no touch icings should be added to the rules. So many severe injuries occur with guys racing for a puck.

I think the players putting themselves in that position also need to be addressed.. Slamming on the breaks is terrible.. and causes a bunch of the inadvertent stuff..

I agree with this entirely, which is likely why there is no suspension here. My contention though is the Danny was pushed with full arm extention which was not needed and that should make the hit suspendable.

I hope your spine and neck are ok but you've clearly suffered some sort of brain injury.

I hate stiff necks.. makes you look robotic. Use heat.. it will help loosen the muscles up... helps with spasms as well.

So Snookie is pregnant. I wonder if she knows who the father is? Can short little Long Island Trolls be impregnated by multiple partners, like cats?

Exactly my first thought after it happened last night. Disgusting "response" from the league (let alone the on-ice officials).

I knew a guy who played pro football. He broke his neck in the first half and didn't have symptoms til half time when his arms started tingling. they put him on a back board and woosh. No more pro football.
