this team is only as good as it is coached. so they are really over achieving. on a side not, this is rapidly becoming a massive failure by Burke

no no no, we blame all the Head Coaches of the Maple Leafs equally
- Big_Lightnin

well in that case....

seriously though....i hope people realize how we crucify any coach that ever comes in...did it with Quinn, Maurice...and now Wilson. Eakins will be next.

What Burke should have done is rejuvenated the sorry excuse for a "rebuild" and taken some of those offers for first round picks coming back. Keep cornerstones like Phaneuf and Kessel, keep emerging talent like Schenn, but listen to solid offers for almost anyone else.

You guys could have several first round picks this year, but I agree yours might be fairly high. You guys still own your pick this year right?

- Senators2112

Yeah, they still have their pick. I was worried it was going to be shipped out for some quick help. Thankfully not.

Trade him for a pick as soon as possible....hes a bust. He should single handedly bring this team into the playoffs....he IS afterall a first round pick.

And the loudest voice saying this was out of toronto,Half our team was out on long term injuries anybody that watches hockey knows that if ottawa had a healthy Spezza,Alfie, michalek,Kuba and gonchar. The chance of us fininshing in the basement where remote

the fact that you're talking about those guys as absolutes plainly points out the fact that it's not year 1 of your rebuild. if it was, they'd be gone and you'd be in the basement.

You make some valid points, but I think it was the SJ players that made Wilson look like a good coach, but he still could never win the big prize. 1,400 regular season games coached, 1 finals appearance, 0 cups.
- 1979AD

Look at his Washington team, didn't make the playoffs in 2001-2002, he only had Jagr, Bondra, Oates, Gonchar, Kolzig and Linden to work with, plus some pretty good depth. Perreault was the Habs leading scorer that year, they made the playoffs.

Goaltending = Fail
Truculence = Fail

You know, the way the g'tending has played out I can have some sympathy for BB on that topic but the fact that we are softer then butter at a outdoor picnic is mind-boggling to me. How is this lineup (save Brown) allowed to be this soft?

Heyyyy I figured why we didn't trade Grabo... we need him as a mentor for when we draft this man

Alex Galchenyuk
His Belarusian-born father played pro hockey for 24 years on 18 different teams and in more than a dozen leagues, so Milwaukee-born son Alex has been well travelled. Has missed the entire OHL season with a torn ACL he suffered during an OHL exhibition game in mid-September. He had scouts drooling last season with 83 points as an OHL rookie at 16.

Strengths: A big, power-forward type winger with soft hands who is good along the wall, has soft hands and can shoot the puck.

Weaknesses: He has missed his entire draft year with a knee injury, so there has been a decided lack of exposure. Teams may be concerned with how he bounces back from the injury.

NHL upside: has the size and skill to be a top two centre if he recovers fully from missing an entire season.

Schenns gonna cough up a few more pucks...expect it. Hell get better with handling the puck as soon as he has better support and open lanes to move the puck to. The entire freakn team cant move the puck out of their end and it leaves Schenn in awkward moments that only Gardiner can figure out what to do with the puck.

Phaneuf needs to be sat imo(I know wont, happen). Hes been bad, and hes not stepping it up. For your captain to be this bad for this long is inexcusable. And I know...team effort, team loss, team stinks...but our captain needs to be the guy that steps it up and turns things around at key times.

Better not........ we will have either the 3rd or 4th pick over all

If Montreal can manage to win a few games we'd get 3rd.

The question is: who do you think is the "real" Luke Schenn?

The steady, composed, gritty player who has been one of our best defensemen for a majority of the past three seasons (before this year) or the shaky, nervous wreck who has struggled as the team around him collapses?

It's aamazing to me how we only use the most recent evidence available to draw our conclusions.

It's like the past couple months have negated every bit of positive gains every young player on this team has ever made.

i refuse to take anything for granted when it comes to this team

and dont get your hopes up.. the leafs will push just hard enough to miss the playoffs and have their pick land outside of the top 10

thats my prediction.

Absolutely, you might as well book it now. This recent swoon continues until the playoffs are only a mere mathematical possibility and all of a sudden they win out to climb back into 9th.

I agree that Reimer hasn't been on top of his game, but I think the bigger question is: why?

Why has a goalie who looked so good last year, early this year, and even late into January suddenly fallen apart?

Wilson's routine of throwing guys under the bus certainly isn't helping. But even more importantly, it's simply become clear that each player, at an individual level, lacks the motivation and confidence to win.

The team, as a whole, is packing it in. They've quit on their coach. To single out one guy as the entire team falls apart is foolhardy and a recipe for ruining yet another promosing prospect.

- Leeman4Gilmour

Confidence is a strange thing. Like in baseball when even the very best players can go 0 for 23 with 10 strikeouts. Reimer, Kulemin, Grabo, Schenn, Phaneuf are all fighting it right now.

I agree they are not playing with any confidence, and the more they lose the more pressure they will feel. Maybe a change of coach will be a wake up call. If they get blown out again tonight against a struggling Chicago team without Toews you may get your wish by tomorrow.
