Spezza back to life is one of the biggest. Back to his old form at last after those injury riddled seasons.
- AdamFrench

Agreed Alfie playing well ,michalek being back on track.Kuba and gonchar having better seasons These are pretty signifigant pieces for any team to lose ,yet we lost all of them for large chunks of the season last year.Take that out of any lineup and you are a lottery team

who else was available around him that wasnt a complete surprise (like Zetterberg late pick surpirse kinda thing)?
- noename09

.

No no no........ you only know what Scenn is like. The rest of the players in the draft all you have are scouting reports.

Would you still pick him as the fifth overall pick?

exactly. only player ranked as high as him was Filatov - was basically a toss-up between them but Leafs needed D, and still a better pick than Filatov. Meyers didn't go till 12th, so 7 other teams had him that low.

Some will say Hodgson, but he wasn't highly touted then either, and I'd say his career has illustrated that.

If this team were to trade away Schenn it would be exactly like the last 10 years.

Which has been like a merry-go-round that never ends and with each revolution the people we let off punch us square in the co ck.

Exactly.

I find it funny how quickly we love to turn on our top prospects, then cry about how we always trade away said prospects.

Bullpoop

you saw something scouts for 20 NHL teams did not?

Eberle was a surprise. He was too small and to slow (at the time) to be taken that high

I will agree with you on all counts. With the caveat, most defensemen are fine in a defense first system.

On Reimer, you have hit it bang on. The book is out, and it is a National Bestseller

- faceto27

I want to see reimer given a chance next year, both Jonas Hiller and Ryan miller took a while to come back from head injury, and they are world class goalies.

i'm gonna come right out and say it:

anyone saying they wouldnt of picked schenn in the 5th spot is fooling themselves

every team had the exact same list when it came to the top 5 that year

Not as high ranked, I thought we weren't talking hindsight but what could have happened in the draft.

The "book" would have been out on Reimer long ago. If his glove hand were truly his biggest problem, it would have been exposed long before now.

He played effectively all last year, he plauyed effectively to begin this season, and after finally getting on track after injury late in January, he played effectively for a good stretch then, as well.

We're watching an entire team meltdown becuase of one man: Ron Wilson.

It's not Reimer's glove hand, it's the space between his ears. Ron Wilson has pulled an epic mind(frank) on this kid.

bullpoop, bullpoop, bullpoop, and bullpoop.

Leafs make any of those picks 5th overall, and Fletcher would have literally been stoned in the street.

I would still pick Schenn....I think its early and you guys are being too critical. Its easy to point fingers right now....the team stinks. But he will be good in a few years. Hell be the guy you want out there sitting guys down. Sorry he cant live up to the expectations of Leafs nation this early, on a struggling team.

But again I say....what about the captain. Schenn is a bottom pairing defender, and a shutdown guy with no leadership responsibilities. Dion is the captain and is supposed to be the guy we look up to right now to turn this crap around cause the coach cant. Well, hows that going. The guy should be a forward.

you're making a bad argument here. He is a 5th overall because that's what he is. can't look at him in a vaccum - it can only be based on who else was available, and how they were ranked at the time.

trade Schenn, Reimer, Mac, Grabo, and Kulemin for a few picks.....THEN we will be a good team.

So miller is a bust too? took Hiller half a season to come back to form and some would say he still isn't there. I want to see reimer after off-season with a team that plays defense in front of him.
