Considering what else was available...he was a bad draft pic in that spot.
You've got the issues.
Content with mediocrity....a common theme in leafland.

- Fakepartofme

He was a very good pick at that spot, and don't say Hodgson or Myers or Eberle. Lots of teams passed on them as well and hind sight is 20/20.

I'm not content with mediocrity, I never wanted Wilson here to begin with b/c that's what his career has always been. I'm not cynical enough to blame all our teams issue on 1 player. He's only on the ice for 17 minutes, Wilson is the reason poop the bed for the entire 60.

Aside from Komi......... who is Schenn better then on our defense??
- faceto27

Defensively? He makes mistakes, but i don't see how anyone can say he makes more then Dion, Liles (recently) Gunnar makes alot more mistakes then get noticed, i've never been able to figure out the love for him. He makes every soft play available which consists of him slapping the puck away. Which is honestly what they all do. Gardiner makes plenty mistakes to, its just hes so good with the puck most the time its is easily forgotten.

Whoa now, Riemer was arguably the best goaltender in league during the stretch last season. We've seen his name in the top 5 on the TSN stats as well. Miller is a world class goalie and a concussion made him look like a ECHL goalie. Riemer is young and will work his way back, just like Miller is getting his game back.

There's about 3-4 Schenn haters and all of you just talk a lot. I'm really not worried about him and no else who has watched his career should either. Should be ashamed giving up on a 22yr old so soon.

His mistakes are so glaring and in opportune, that they usually result in a goal for the other team

That is why

BITE YOUR TONGUE. Schenn is just weak defensively, and the fact that somehow he was given $4mm per year is astounding.

Leafs need some speed and mobility on back end. Their D just seems to constantly be making the wrong read and then they don;t have the jump to make up for it. Or the will at this point.

I think I agree with that guy. When he was drafted he was touted as being the type of guy every team needs. But as it stands now he's mediocre at best and the only highlights lately have been giveaways that lead to goals. If this was his first year, or his 2nd...it's a lot easier to look passed. But (frank) me he's not very good, if he wasn't drafted that high after the Leafs haven't drafted high in ages, he'd be just what he is, crap but can play in the 5 or 6th role. His draft spot has made some believe that he's something he isn't.

He...is...22!

Most guys of his ilk wouldnt even have played 3 seasons by now!! Hes ahead of schedule for NHL time and needs time to develop. Yikes!

I would argue our captain has been worse!!....hes EXPECTED to lead by example and be the go to guy...now HES been bad.

He never said anything like that at all ,he said we might struggle early while the youth gets sorted out and we should be a more competitive team in the second half.

I said from day 1 of the season ottawa was just as good if not better in some areas than toronto and both would probably be bubble teams .I dont get where all this dead last nonsense came from .We had a PPG center a decent goaltender, some decent forwards and some pretty mobile defenders.

They have played with plenty jump at points in the year. Its just recently they look like they're skating in quicksand. They can't backcheck, there's no pressure, they dump the puck and chase, but can't get there in time. They can't close gaps. They need to get a new skate sharpener or better ice makers or somthinggg.

noename......... hindsight being 20/20

I am giving you a do over........ would you still have picked Schenn at number 5?? Knowing what you know of him, and not knowing the rest of the picks. Would you have picked him in the number 5 slot??

Maybe he'll hit his prime when he's 34? You've still got time.
