I have heard in the past that bell wanted to purchace CBC.. just a rumor
- jiri_crha

CRTC wouldn't allow it.

Same reason CTV had to sell Citytv to Rogers after they bought CHUM. 1 company can't own 2 national channels/newsrooms.

Dude - Teachers Pension Fund own MLSE before lockout when Leafs were constantly going to at least 2ns round of playoffs. They see FIRST HAND the difference in money. They wanted playoffs too - problem is the board erroneously thought they new a goddamn thing about hockey and tried to run the team themselves for years.

you just don't have an argument here. Both past and present owners are corporations who's bottom line is profits. The best case scenarios would have been having a single billionaire owner who cares about winning because HIS name is tied to the team.

For Bell/Rogers, this might be the case, as brand recognition is huge for them, but the will be FAR more concerned with building the fan base. That will be their MAIN focus.

Isn't that something playoff hockey would help accomplish??...

paid for by taxpayers. CBC is governement regulated - their board has to answer to a budget provided by the governemtn (sort of). They barely got the contract renewed last time.

It is only a matter of time before HNIC is on TSN. This is an unavoidable fact.

- Big_Lightnin

thats a political hot potatoe........ CBC is free to all viewers. TSN you have to pay through cable. Still alot of people without cable or satellite in this country. Just can't see it happening. The political ramifications would kill a party that supported that idea.

This is Canada......... Hockey before balancing the budget

Without Gus, this team would have been dead last.
If the plan is to drop to last place...play Reimer.
If Burke still foolishly believes they can make the playoffs, play Gus and leave him in there for the rest of the season.
At least they'll have a chance.

and for gawds sake....bench Schenn.

- Fakepartofme

Play Reimer and let him find his groove....Ive given up on Gus, hes not long term nor is he short term. Let Reimer get experience, let him find himself.

We owe nothing to Gus....he can be back up incase Reimer is tired or injured. That is all.

And I dont want to touch the Schenn debate anymore....you guys are unfair with your critiques towards certain players.

ya I said yesterday, going to really suck if this is the 1st year in the last 5 they don't make a "late push for the playoffs" cause it's the first time that it might actually do something.

Win tonight could right the ship. Need to get some confidence going into Montreal, or they could easily drop the next 5-6 in a row.

Schedule in March is a female dog. very bad time to be playing this poorly.

- Big_Lightnin

Ya March is awful ... I'm not sure a win tonight does enough. I'm still on board but yikes they need to flip the switch and hope everything changes for the better.

TSN/CTV same company - so you put the games on CTV with the TSN crew... CTV"s HNIC...

even sounds the same. Plus they own the old theme - everybody would be fine with it.

I know where your heart it is and the situation is just completely (frank)ed now anyway, but they should never have played Riemer to begin with. Gus was winning games but they tried to force Riemer in.

I remember feeling very... (what's a good word for an "uh oh..." feeling?) for that game. Riemer looked awful but he got the shutout. Then everyone started freaking b/c he got a shutout and Optimus was back. so they played him the next 3 games and he was exposed, and by that point Gus cooled off....

- Boosinicka

there is no truer statement than this. and that makes it Wilson's fault at the end of the day.
both shutouts were freebies, 45ft shots all night long. in his other 2 wins, he and the team almost blew it against the oilers.
now the team has mailed it in quite a few nights which isnt fair to the goalies, but the difference in the pasting Gus took in calgary and all of reimer's pasting, gus had more spectacular saves in that Calgary game than Reimer has made in 2012. Gus is still making saves to keep the team in it, with Reim's not the case.
not saying reimer doesnt have a future here, just not this season.

Things that are true. Those guys really (frank)ed up.

The old timers will throw their canes up but it's not like CTV is some foreign tyrant. Hell, like you said CBC are filled with more corrupt businessmen doing anything for a $.

This will be the first time ever that I don't give a (frank) about what happens vs the habs. I've all but lost my bets involving them, might as well hope the for the loss and a bunch of other wins from other teams.

The thing is bell and rogers paid alot more for the team and stand to make alot more money in playoff due to being tv companies

would you prefer "reality" to fact?

It will happen within our lifetime.(probably with the next contract) CTV wants HNIC, even more so now that they are co-owners of MLSE. Revenue possibilities are almost unimaginable.
