TORONTO Feb 22 (Reuters) - Rogers Communications , Canada's largest wireless telecommunication company, posted a 2.8 percent rise in its fourth-quarter operating profit on Wednesday, driven by growth in both its cable and wireless businesses.

Its board has authorized an 11 percent increase in its quarterly dividend payout and a C$1 billion share buyback program that will allow the company to repurchase about 10 percent of its Class B outstanding shares.

Rogers said made an adjusted net profit of C$372 million, or 70 Canadian cents a share, on revenue of C$3.18 billion. A year ago, it earned C$338 million, or 60 Canadian cents a share, on revenue of C$3.14 billion.

The company said its adjusted operating profit rose to C$1.09 billion, up from C$1.06 billion, a year earlier.

Rogers' new quarterly dividend payout will be 39.5 Canadian cents per share up from 35.5 Canadian cents a share

There is a difference..The teacher purchased the leafs as a investment the big money was made by increase in value/investment..Bell and Roger paid a boatload for MSLE an investment that likely wont get the return in increased value like the teachers did for first investment...(Some claim the reason Teachers sold because they felt MLSE had near max in terms of real value)..It gonna take time for Bell and Rogers to get to the break even point considering what they paid for MLSE..

Bell and Rogers are media/communication company's and there a load of coin to be made for them if the leafs are in playoffs, a load more than just gate revenues..

And how is that different from the Teachers?? They wouldn't make a boat load of coin either??

Gus's last game sunk him though. Just terrible. Only reason he's getting back in is because Reimer's been equally bad, or at least unable to be better. They need to go 2 mins without getting scored on to start the game. Hell get the first goal.

Why the hell Wilson started Schenn and Gardiner last game, when he knows the team is struggling out of the gate - Why would he not start Dion and Gunnar - makes no sense at all...

- Big_Lightnin

this is starting to frustrate me to no end!!!

Reimer comes in...we dont win 10-0 so he sits again. (frank) me....let the kid play.

Burke really needs to make a run at Schneider in the summer. I could see him holding out a bit. Guy is going to start deteriorating if he doesn't get games - hurting his own career staying in Vancouver. Not looking like he's going to take Luongo's job anytime soon.

I'm willing to give Riemer a pass this year - sophomore plus the concussion, plus the ridiculous expectations from last years performance.

Schnieder/Riemer combo next year would be more confidence inspiring. Still 2 young goalies, but Schnieder has a LOT more experience and confidence.

We should let Nabokov get the majority of the starts going down the stretch. Veteran presence and he's clutch.

Oh right.

I was actually stunned he went with him last night - he gave him the shot, and honestly he didn't play badly. 1st 2 goals go in on anybody. Maybe the 5-hole goal he should stop, but once it's 2-0 after 2 shots and the crowds on him, I'm surprised he made any saves.

Gus would likely be playing tonight even if they won the last 3 games. Back to back with travel, almost never see the same goalie play both those games.

Man does Reimer need a road game though - lots coming up...

you really need to bold your "fixes" - annoying having to read the whole thing to see what you changed...

Have you forgotten Gus' last game already? or his last 3 appearances for that matter?

U think MLSE value will near double or climb to 1 1/2..1 3/4 Billion??...

The teachers didn't thats why they sold it...The teachers pension fund dont just toss away big money making investments..
The investment had reach near it max so the sold it..

Remember now the Teachers didn't pay 1+billion to own MLSE in the first place.....Bell and Rogers did..

actually Teachers sold it because they have a Massive amount of payouts coming due and needed to liquidate assets to be able to make their payments. This is the ONLY reason they sold it, and many didn't want to (was a close vote, but they needed the cash).

I liked the way the Leafs did it before ....lose early and often then win when it doesn't matter. This win early and blow a tire late thing sucks.

Gave my tix to a friend last night ...I have one less friend now.

I know where your heart it is and the situation is just completely (frank)ed now anyway, but they should never have played Riemer to begin with. Gus was winning games but they tried to force Riemer in.

I remember feeling very... (what's a good word for an "uh oh..." feeling?) for that game. Riemer looked awful but he got the shutout. Then everyone started freaking b/c he got a shutout and Optimus was back. so they played him the next 3 games and he was exposed, and by that point Gus cooled off....
