RW needs to go, if for just the reason to shake up the team.

Don't understand what Burke is waiting for. He didn't even hire the franken guy.

We can blame the white haired dude for that one. Aside from Fletcher's early success as GM the first time around, his second tenure ranks right up there with JFJ in terms of horrible decisions.

so youre telling me the entire defensive team isnt struggling....

common...fine, Schenn has been struggling, that obvious. But its not fair to throw him under the bus. The entire team is struggling...the system dosnt seem to be working, tending hasnt been great...but Schenn isnt a vet defender who is expected to carry this team and make big plays.

Hes a shutdown guy who is far from his prime and is having trouble finding his game on a struggling team. Once the rest of the team can hold their own in our own end...he will be able to play his game.

Phaneuf deserves some of this anger from you...if anyone...imo.

Crucial crucial game last Saturday against Washington.......... a team that was in the dumps. A team that played the previous night.

Reimer lets in a goal in the first 30 seconds that a junior B goalie stops.

Young and inexperience would have only qualified on that goal if he was 10 years old.

That goal just totally deflated the team. A team that has very little confidence in their goaltending. If your on the bench, and you watch that goal go in, you can't help but think....... " here we go again"

- faceto27

I agree...tending has been bad....but you try to maintain a groove and gain confidence when at any moment you can be shelled on defense, let him a weak goal and blamed for two weeks where you sit. He needs to be given the chance to gain confidence.

Schenn has been struggling......... The obvious

Yes it is fair to throw him under the bus.... he makes 3.5 million, he deserves the criticism

the entire team has been struggling.......... it starts from our side of the rink first

Don't expect him to make big plays.......... I expect him not to make STUPID plays

The rest of the team would play better defensively if Schenn did his job in his own end

Phaneuf has struggled.... he is not captain material. In fairness to Phaneuf, I will blame RW for alot of his struggles. Phaneuf struggles mightly when he put on the left side. He is Komisarek like when he plays the left side. Clear as day when Gunner was out, that RW put him on the left side, and he made blunder after blunder. So yes, he struggled, but that one is on RW

Allaire is the main reason both tenders are doing so poorly ... well that and a lack of a def system

Both Burke and Wilson should be fired at seasons end.
- jiri_crha

Burke has done a fine job so far....did you really want us to sell a bunch of assets and prospects for 1st rounders or one guy like Nash?....no that wouldnt have helped...hes trying to build a core, not do another rebuild by unloading all the guys hes brought in for a few picks which are not guaranteed.

Dude....23years old, second year, hasnt even played 100 games yet...hasnt had much help on defense and his coach has thrown him under the bus. He hasnt had a vet goalie we could rely upon when needed, when he was hurt...we also had an entire fan base who actually thought he was going to carry this team with limited experience....it wasnt fair...is all.

My prediction is tonight Gustavson stands on his head.......they beat Chicago.... everything is fine is Leaf land because our savior shows up in goal and Ronny is safe yet again........but we still miss the playoffs and finish in 10th

I hope we lose 8 - 0 and Ronny is axed immediately after......

A horrible 3 points out of 20 can and should be blamed on Wilson.

I actually think that Burke being too loyal to Wilson is good because its nice to see a usually cocky/smug/sarcastic Wilson shivl up in the intse spotligh that is on him.

I almost feel that Wilson is too complacent, he even was speaking about watching HBO 24/7 to see what he'll have to go through next year. Well, here is your wake up call RW, your team has not made the playoffs since you have been here, time is up.

I hope Dallas Eakins gets a shot behind the bench, he appears to be doing a great job with the Marlies.

He can then start to inject some hungry players into the lineup, scratching the non-performers.

After losing to CHI tonight, I say the Leafs should either fire Wilson OR call up Kadri, Colburne, Holtzer and keep Frattin for the rest of the season. See what they can do and start planning for next year.

Up until Monday, I would have given Burke a 9 out 10 on his performance to date.

If he truly could have gotten firsts for Kuli and Mac, then he blundered there. They are third liners.

He dropped the ball on that one.

I believe he left the team as is, and didn't sell off was to give RW one final kick at the can. There was no way the Leaf could make the playoffs by selling off Mac and Kuli for picks.

Doubt they can make the playoffs now regardless. Past two games were must wins.

They failed horribly on both nights.......... like I mean, real bad

There will absolutely NOT be a coaching change this year. People need to realize that.

Burke gave him an extension to get through this year.

That said, Burke has also hedged his bets for the off-season. In Monday's presser he was asked flat out if the Leafs miss the playoffs does he need to look at making a coaching change. Burke's Answer:

"If we miss the playoffs I'd imagine there are a number of changes we'll need to make"

Marlies leading division handily - looking like a deep playoff run is possible. Eakins will remain there for that purpose. Same goes for Colborne as well, and likely Kadri.

Holtzer it sounds like they intend to get some NHL time this year. THough not sure how that will happen as there's still a log jam back there. Sitting 2 vets to call up Holzer isn't very likley, but they might...

A good coach would realize a player's weakness.

Schenn has TERRBILE hands. A good coach would do the following to correct this:

1. Realize that he employs several DEFENCE-FIRST defencemen (Komi, Schenn, Gunnar), and understand that these players will not function in an offense first system.

2. As a result of #1, employ a defensively responsible system, with an emphasis on moving the puck forwards, rather than skating it out (for certain players).

3. Sit down Schenn and say: "Listen son. You have trouble handling the puck, that is a given. Your strengths are your size, and ability to be a human wrecking ball, along with good defensive awarness. Right now I want you to focus on limiting your time with the puck, and instead act as an anchor for when Gardiner wants to skate with it. ALWAYS to hand off the puck as soon as you get it, if not to Gardiner, to a winger. If neither is available, GET IT OUT OF OUR ZONE. Clear bodies in front of the net, and wear guys down when they try to outwork you on the boards. In the summer I want you to address your footspeed and puck-handling abilities. In the mean time, focus defense first, and keep the puck out of our end. That is all!"

Someone pointed out that JFJ didn't trade for Pronger because of Steen had to be included.

They pointed out that Talk for the NYI 1st overall (Tavares) discussion ended because Schenn was being asked for.

Burke didn't want to add Gardiner in the trade for Nash. See a pattern?

Burke is overvaluing some pieces he has and I think it goes with Reimer and Gustavson too.

Get a bonified #1 goalie this team can count on for 5-8 years who is in their prime. Overpay for it. Keep Reimer as the back-up. Pogge, Raycroft, Toskala were all supposed to be the saviours, enough already.
