I'm about 8 miles from the city of Greenville and 1 mile from a major shopping area yet there is a small herd of deer that have taken up residence in the woods across the street from my house. Saw 3 of them the other day just off the road in my neighbors yard. I'm amazed at the amount of deer, fox, skunk, racoon and other wild life so close to the suburbs of Greenville. I never get tired of seeing wild life around the neighborhood.

Rinks are not always in the best parts of town, so the rink being a dive is an excuse. I have been to game in the Old Montreal Form, and the new building. I have been to games in Maple Leaf Gardens and the new building. I would rather go to the old building in a heart beat. The history, the nastalgia, the feelings of the past glory, even in Toronto. It was awesome. The new buildings are shiny and bright, but just not the same.

It is a sales job, the Isles need.

UFA's move all the time. Even the best ones seldom stay put. I don't see this being the reason. Wang has created a poor hockey atmosphere over the team. I don't think that players trust him or any of his worker bees. It SHOULD be one of THE PLACES TO PLAY. I would love to bring my kids up on the Island. I know Sim loved it their. It is beautiful. Fans didn't like Sim, but the place is not the worst place to bring up children.

I agree to a certain extent, but usually when UFA's move, they have a say in where they move to. This might not be the case here.

Thanks I needed a sign that these Isladners are the same pathetic team and nothing different and I got my sign last night. Clueless coach, owner, Gm and some players. It is pathetic what we poor Islander fans have to go through. For once think of the fans?

not exaggerating at all by the way. I was watching 2 homeless people make out while waiting for train. ... NYC is horrible.
- niteislander

Dont say that too loud Snow might see them as a bargain and sign them to a contract. Maybe next coach and assistant coach. They will come cheap right up there alley

Oh I believe you, trust me. Been there many many times myself and have seen the likes of anything possible. I can only stop to wonder what a good old boy from the south thinks to himself when he may see that while visiting or signing with a NY team.
- BringBackBalky

They think. How in the world can people live like that??

Then they thank God that they were born and raised in the South.

Really.

Being a NYer in the south. I've heard it many times from the locals.

If I were to post some of the things I saw while running construction jobs in Harlem. EK would suspend me.

Sad but true.

come on though seriously when you first heard the announcement he became the GM what did you think? I remember turning to my ex wife and saying that is it this is rock bottom and this team is going to suck for years. So far I have been right and that does not happen often

True I dont know what I am thinking maybe a real professional NHL team who actually wants to play the sport ans not just skate up and down the ice while they watch Tavares line do everything.

Funny you said that. My son's pretty good with the long bow. But he just sold it because he moved to DC.

Still have the Remington 30 - 06 the Winchester 30 - 30 & the Henry .22 though.

It would have to be a hell of a shot to take down a deer with a .22.

It just seems to be too easy to me, to constantly point to the " Hard to sign here" or the " Rink is old" .. Grath has that as an out, for being a crappy GM.

The (frank)in truth is Wanger, you scare the BeGeezuss out of the palyers in the league. They are not comfortable with what may happen to the club and they are not happy with the way some of the older players have been treated. My take.

- bixll

I agree that Garth needs to work on his craft. He's the team's GM. He's responsible to sell the organization to UFA's that he thinks will improve the team. He shouldn't be using the arena and the expiring lease as an excuse as to why he can't get anyone worthwhile to sign with the Isles. That being said, while he shouldn't use it as an excuse, that doesn't mean that Snow doesn't have the expiring lease and sh**ty arena and facilities working against him.

Besides, the lease and arena don't explain how since the Ryan Smyth trade, Snow hasn't made one impactful trade to upgrade the roster. I think Snow needs to identify better targets in free agency. Lets face it, the Isles are never going to win out against the rest of the league if money and years are the only factors. The Isles need to set their sights on guys that the rest of hockey isn't in love with and will meet the Isles dollar value and contract term to sign.

A perfect example is Streit. When Snow went after Streit, he not only offered him a ton of cash, but he went after a guy that he knew the rest of hockey didn't necessarily view as a defenseman, didn't want to sign as a d-man. So what does Snow do? Offers him a lot of cash, and tells Streit "we want you to play defense". So yes, Streit got a lot of money, but the fact that the Isles were going to let him play "D" and showed him that they thought highly of his abilites on "D" by offering him $20+M over five years probably sold Streit on Long Island.

Roloson too. Roloson was courted by other teams, but Snow was smart. He knew that Roloson wanted 2 or more years and everyone else was only offering one. So, Snow offers him the second year and as a result, Roloson leans towards and signs with the Isles.

you can't sugar coat how desperate of an upgrade this defense needs
- NYI78

Sorry for the delay... work keeps getting in the way of HockeyBuzz...

I like Hamonic, and Streit, and AMac will be fine on a second or 3rd pairing.

Yes... I agree we need @ least one stud on defence, and another solid defenceman.

We also need more grit on the bottom 2 lines... I think Haley, and Casey will help... but we could use a Ott type player too.

And I wouldn't mind a second line centreman...lol.

I know Strome is coming... but he won't be ready to take over the role next year.

I don't disagree but the owner is also a reason. We let Zenon go b/c of Wang. Haley and Gillies are not on team b/c of Wang. He hates fighting in NHL.. I don't give Snow a Pass but I don't give him all the blame either...

Snow does have a lot of talent in our system. A lot of those players have not finished developing too. Guys like Brock, Strome, Kirill1/2, DeHaan, etc. I kind of feel like They tanked this year on purpose to get one last high pick. It is the only reason to allow Rolston, Wallace, Pandolfo, et al to continue playing as long as they did.

- niteislander

The players you mentioned are prospects and some may never see the NHL let alone come to this country, far from sure things

More then ANYTHING this team needs 2 top 4 D-men ... its no surprise Strait, Amac & Jurcina have looked horrendous this year they are either playing with mis-matched partners or playing more mins then they should. Garth needs to find a way to address this.. deHann,Ness & Donovan will be very nice upgrades to what we have had.. but they are just veggies in this stew.. Garth needs to go out & get us some Meat!

XxNYIxX

Garth hasn't gotten us any "meat" since being named GM, all of a sudden this off season is the year he does it all?!?!?!? Sorry guys, this is the blind leading the blind. He has done nothing to make me believe he will

I agree, but at some point the (frank)in owner has to step up and make a plan, then stick to it. Renovate it, re-build it, move it, re-locate them, make a (frank)in plan and allow the team to know what, where and when.

It actually is a business and needs to be operated as such.I do know, that if I operated my division the same way, I would be out of work..

He hasn't had the tradeable assets to get the meat in the past, The team didnt have a superstar on the brink (JT) to draw a free agent to them.... So yes.

I have no problem with hunting or fishing as long as you use what you kill. Sometimes with the fishing regs as they are you gut hook a fish and you cant keep em. You know they are gonna die and the fish is wasted. Shame.

As for hunting. My exception is Coyotes. Kill the bastards!

I heard them yelping and crying the other night. It sounds demonic when they get going. And they are a threat to pets and kids.

But he cant just renovate it, he cant just re-build it.... he cant just relocate.. its not something he can just snap his fingers and get done... you make it sound like thats the case.
