Cringed at his comparison to Coburn, but otherwise, not bad.

Flyers should be doing everything they can to bring back Carle, as long as it's a deal below what Wisniewski got.

- bradleyc4

There was no, something has happened so I'm just going to guess it means this unconnected thing. Which is a big step.

Carle turns the puck over less than one time per game(45). He is 20th in the league in turnovers. Behind such defenseman as John Carlson(74), Brett Burns(54), Zdeno Chara(52), Keith Yandle (65), and Drew Doughty (55).

He also leads the team in blocked shots (top 20 in the league) by a pretty healthy margin. He also leads the team in ICE TIME basically playing with whoever is the replacement of the day. Leads the team in shifts taken and total even strength time on ice. He hasn't been paired with Pronger at all this season and most of last season due to Prongers injuries so saying his stats are a result of Pronger is really not accurate.(as was mentioned ad nauseum in the comments)

Matt Carle is a very good defenseman. With the deadline coming and going it's one of those moments where you can say the best trade never happened for us. We need Matt Carle right now. However, in the summer if we can upgrade over him, I would. Suter could easily step into Carle's slot and do a better job. This isn't a knock on Carle, it's just a fact. I would be all for re-signing Matt Carle if Suter can't be had and I would be much more in love with Carle if he had a stronger shot and was more of a physical player.
- roenick97

You won't find a bigger Suter fan than myself. But Suter isn't ~$2 million better (based on reports of Carle getting a deal in the 5's and Suter in the 7's this summer) per season than Carle. I'd much rather re-sign Carle and not risk losing out on both.

Same fanbase that insists that Crosby sucks.
- Flyskippy

No no. Different. Other team's players suck ON PRINCIPLE because they are not Flyers. It is a grudging respect. If they really sucked, Flyers fans wouldn't even know they existed.

No clue. But sometimes, reports (from Frank) are erroneous.

thought the same thing myself, but is suter really that much better? worth a read, sir:

edit: you can skip over the advanced numbers if they're not your thing and still get the idea that's being conveyed.

Wow! I never thought he was that close to Suter stat wise. Seems like many in Flyerdom don't realize how good something is until it isn't there any more! Hopefully we don't have to find that out between now and July 1!

Lets say this is the scenario:

Carle $5.5M
Suter $6.5M

Is he better than Carle for that price ($1M more)?

I think Suter is an all around better defenseman than Carle. For a million more I think its an instant upgrade for the Flyers.

To lazy to read through, but I am sitting on the couch with my beautiful wife last night. She was talking about...ahh...whatever wives gripe about, when this horrifying yet almost impressive thought hit me. There is real chance that we would have to go through 3 Atlantic Division teams to make it to the cup.

Gotta have that eye for detail, what with making sure credits are still on the left and debits on the right.

I have to think that with all of the interest Suter is going to get from big money clubs (PHI, DET, NYR...) 6.5 will be the lowest he will get.

In no way would I be suprised if Suter got over 7 mil a year.

Might be "greener" for Carle as in a massive payday!

I honestly think Suter ends up in Detroit based on money and the fact that Lidstrom is going to be done. Carle is going to be a tough decision for Homer.

im on board with all this.. but then i remember one similar piece someone posted arguing that weber is in many ways a product of playing with suter.
