I'm excited that the fantasy trades will cool off now, though I know some will still propose moves for the offseason. I for one am ecstatic to be able to focus in the stretch drive and in sure most of the team feels the same. We will see if nerves had anything to do with their recent struggles. Now that the TDL is over the team can worry about 1 thing from here to June, and that is winning.

Gee, he can actually report.

Cringed at his comparison to Coburn, but otherwise, not bad.

Flyers should be doing everything they can to bring back Carle, as long as it's a deal below what Wisniewski got.

Whats the max you would be willing to go? How much cap hit wise?

4 yrs. $20 million ($5 mil per season) is a nice, round number. And he'd still be entering free agency heading into his age-32 season with the ability to collect another big paycheck.

Carle turns the puck over less than one time per game(45). He is 20th in the league in turnovers. Behind such defenseman as John Carlson(74), Brett Burns(54), Zdeno Chara(52), Keith Yandle (65), and Drew Doughty (55).

He also leads the team in blocked shots (top 20 in the league) by a pretty healthy margin. He also leads the team in ICE TIME basically playing with whoever is the replacement of the day. Leads the team in shifts taken and total even strength time on ice. He hasn't been paired with Pronger at all this season and most of last season due to Prongers injuries so saying his stats are a result of Pronger is really not accurate.(as was mentioned ad nauseum in the comments)

I'm preparing my offer sheet for Mike Green. Have to check if the team has enough draft picks to make it happen.

Now do you think Carle will accept that deal? Just makes me wonder why the Flyers and Carle are far off on negotiations. You cant possible think he is asking for more than $5M per year (max 5.5M)? I dont know if Homer is willing to spend that on Carle. He may try to trade for another defenseman or possibly take a run at Suter before committing to Carle (its a risk that Carle walks).

Yep, and pretty sure the Flyers offensive style of play will lead to more turnovers, regardless of who has the puck.

Chara is up there in turnovers. He sucks.

Carle is so unappreciated. Just like Tom Gilbert was in Edmontom.

I don't think they'll be able to keep all three among Carle, Kubina (unless he takes a substantial pay cut) and Grossman. Carle is going to be very high priced, so some sort of middle ground will have to be reached. Grossman is currently underpaid for a guy who plays the number of minutes he can handle, but there has to be a limit on how much you'll pay him, too. Is he a $3 million defenseman?
No.

So, to answer your question, unless the team finds itself in position to sign Suter this summer, they will try to retain at least two of their UFA defensemen, and will certainly re-sign at least one.

- bmeltzer

Grossman could get $3 million on the market. Look at Ericsson's contract with Detroit.

Carle's situation is quite similar to Suter. Both teams are in the playoffs looking to contend for a championship. They could of traded either but it would hurt what they currently have. Take the risk and see if you can sign before they become a free agent. If you can upgrade through trade or UFA do so. Suter and Carle will be the top defenseman available if they hit the UFA market. Im not a huge fan of Carle but he has been a good defenseman this year. There is no way the Flyers should give him more than $5M per year, IMO (5.5M max).

Buffalo made some nice trades yesterday. Getting a #1 and # 4 for Gaustad was a heist. And getting a legit center in Hodgson, for Kassian was an incredible haul.
- PLindbergh31

Agreed. Don't understand the media love for Vancouver. They got swindled, and could've added grit without giving up a future stud like Hodgson.

Yea, no chance in hell I would either. I still think Homer will have his eyes set on Suter come July 1st.

Adding him and re-signing Grossman would be ideal.

I think thats the plan. He hasnt committed to Carle yet still leaving his options open. If Homer doesnt win out on Suter (UFA) he also takes the risk of not getting Carle either. Its a risk.

Matt Carle is a very good defenseman. With the deadline coming and going it's one of those moments where you can say the best trade never happened for us. We need Matt Carle right now. However, in the summer if we can upgrade over him, I would. Suter could easily step into Carle's slot and do a better job. This isn't a knock on Carle, it's just a fact. I would be all for re-signing Matt Carle if Suter can't be had and I would be much more in love with Carle if he had a stronger shot and was more of a physical player.

No worries Sir. It's only a 12 game winless streak against the Jaber Jaws. It ends tonight. This Sharks team is currently playing like the days of Arturs Irbe and Fat Balloon.

Lead Pipe chimp that ripped the face off the woman in Connecticut lock!

Flyers 4-3. Bryzgalov only allows 1 softy tonight.

edit: you can skip over the advanced numbers if they're not your thing and still get the idea that's being conveyed.
