i didn't see it live. just the replay, but clowe wired that from point blank range. i wouldn't call it soft. he had a good period. nice to see the team actually show up for the final 2 minutes.
- hammarby31

Agreed. Everyone wants to call it soft because if was the first shot of the game. It wasn't soft.

Can't play 5 minutes a period. They routinely come out flat game after game.

I guess the soft goals in the first minute or two deflates them for about 10-12 minutes before they get their game going.

Coots, Briere were noticeable.. And, Simmonds came on strong at the end.

I miss sestito's hits in a game like this.

I know we don't see them a lot, but this Sharks team looks like they play dirty. A couple of up-high hits and 3-on-1 with Simmonds scrum.
- steelydan

I watch them a fair bit. Not really a dirty team but they aren't one to back down either. They're pumped for this game.

i disagree that it was soft. they absolutely (frank)ing sucked for the first 17 minutes of that period. bryz was the only player to show up until late.

briere getting absolutely crushed out there. that's twice already.
- hammarby31

Yeah Briere is getting manhandled. Nice to see Simmonds out there causing mayhem. I like when the Flyers get angry. Remember Simmonds plays the Sharks team 12 times in the last 2 regular seasons.

I forget the exact numbers, but they pointed out the Flyers have only had one lead in the first ten minutes for almost half the season. There's plenty of blame to go around on that, but it's really concerning they can't get up for games from the opening faceoff.

Understatement. And once Rinaldo laid out that open-ice hit, the Sharks picked up their physical game three-fold.

Judgment call at best, but it should have been stopped IMO. Either way, team defense was weak and looked like Timonen was interfered with on the goal, as you could tell with his death-stare towards the ref.
- steelydan

maybe if he makes an attept to take a stand at the blue line, he'll get that call, to me looked like he was just skating backwards.

The Sharks defense was really aggressively stepping up on the Flyers almost trapping them during the breakouts and causing all sorts of breakdowns in the neutral zone. Flyers need to adjust + respond.

Simmonds is a pro. Man I love this guy.

Okay so Bryz allowed another soft goal in the early going, although I'm not convinced he wasn't screened. However, the Flyers have to get it together. The passing isn't very good and they don't look very alert.

Maybe not soft, but it's not like it's an impossible save. Certainly allowing Clowe to get that type of time and space is unacceptable. They picked the play up at the end of the period, hopefully it carries over.

I disagree with you disagreeing that it was soft. He didn't challenge the shooter enough and gave it up short side which is the worst spot to give up a goal. He continuously gives up short side goals too and it is getting old. When you are paid that much money, you damn well better make that save.

This sort of game is built for guys like Hartnell and Simmonds. Wreak havoc in the corners and in front of the net, and let the little guys benefit from it.

Yup. Playing from behind constantly is grinding both physically and mentally. They have to start playing with the lead.

I got a good feeling about this game, despite how it's started. I think the Flyers really started warming up to the task the last 5 minutes of the 1st, and they're gonna get plenty of chances to score over the final 40 minutes.
