He's the perfect coach for that bunch of guys. And whether it's Hank or Marty behind them, that team, far more often than not, plays hard for 60 minutes. They've taken a handful of games off all year, but they seem to get right back on track. They're an easy team to like.

My in-laws are from North Jersey and that makes me hate the Rags even more. Nothing would make me happier than the Rags losing in the playoffs to shut everyone up.

Unless you are a Rangers fan, I don't see why many people would like them. Tortorella is a ego maniac, and a control freak. Every time the camera is on him, he's got some sort of puss on his face, followed by some animated douchey reaction to what is going on.

Their style of play isn't all that different from the Devils of the Mid 90's. That team was about as likeable as a case of Bird Aids.

The thing about a lot of the soft goals lately is that I find myself saying Bryz needs to get his eyes checked. He is just misjudging pucks like a kid would who is just learning how to catch.

We have all seen how children tend to reach out for something they are trying to catch instead of putting their hands or glove where the ball/puck will be and catching it.

Then it bangs off the the end of the glove or they miss it completely. We all know Bryz knows how to catch, so that is why I find myself thinking "eyes".

The other thing that goes through my mind comes from when I was a catcher. Sometimes anticipation of pain would make me as a young kid try to be too cute on where I wanted a particularly hard thrower to hit my glove. I started padding my hand as I got older and the pitches started getting harder and this problem went away.

Sometimes it seems as though Bryz is doing the same kind of thing and missing because of it.

Now I know neither of these explanations are even remotely possible, but it is what goes through my mind when I see him misjudging seemingly easy stops. Something is in his head about it, and he needs to get it straightened out soon.

I personally think Ashton is overrated, but Aulie is pretty bad.

Can't really fault for Stevie for trying to bolster his ugly defense.

Shouldn't have traded Quincey, IMO.

Hi all,

I read here that we put a claim on Clitsome yesterday, did Homer actually try this because I didn't see it anywhere else.. may have been a good depth pickup.

Watching the Rangers nurse their 1-0 lead against the Devils through the rest of the game (until the ENG by Callahan with 1:04 left in the game) was pretty much a textbook case of stifling defense and making the horrible ice at MSG work to their benefit.

There were only a combined 27 shots in last night's game, which was dreadfully dull apart from the fights in the 2nd period -- but the Rangers could not have cared less (basically giving NJ a taste of their own medicine).

Since the start of the 2010-11 season, the Rangers have taken a lead into the third period in 56 games. After last night, they are now 54-0-2 in such games.

That's why the soft go-ahead goals the Flyers have given up the last two games against NY were so devastating. The Flyers actually have erased FOUR one-goal deficits against the hardest team to come back on in the NHL, and then gifted back the lead to them and went on collapse completely.

If the Flyers end up playing the Rangers in the playoffs at some point, it will be absolutely CRITICAL not to chase the game and not to allow anything soft. The Winter Classic was the closest the Flyers came to that -- until that bad short-side goal on Bobrovsky tied the game.

At any rate, last night's NYR-Devils game reminded me an awful lot of what it used to be like for the high-scoring Flyers teams of the mid-to-late 90s to play New Jersey. They'd contain the Philly offense, the Flyers would give up an iffy goal to fall behind and then everything would fall apart.

Dislike Tortorella all you want, but with that defense and goaltending, his club is going to be real tough to beat in the postseason.

Don't understand why 1) TB traded Quincey away after acquiring him for Downie and 2) why Yzerman is praised for the move(s).

I don't think they could have. At the 50 contract limit.

That's only slightly less puzzling to me. You got Quincey for Downie? Good trade. But now all you have is Detroit's 1st? Sketchy.

I imagine they would have immediately placed Shelley on waivers.

That'd be fantastic and all, but no one would take him, and we'd still have too many contracts.

Well, or hate. An easy team to hate, too. I suffer Stockholm Syndrome though, being their mod.

I'm excited that the fantasy trades will cool off now, though I know some will still propose moves for the offseason. I for one am ecstatic to be able to focus in the stretch drive and in sure most of the team feels the same. We will see if nerves had anything to do with their recent struggles. Now that the TDL is over the team can worry about 1 thing from here to June, and that is winning.

I wonder what his agent is asking for. I dont think the Flyers are willing to spend $5M per year on Carle just yet. The two sides are not close according to the article. My question is if Carle is looked at as such a good defenseman around the league why wouldnt Homer sign him for that price? Unless his agent is asking for even more money in which Homer will let Carle walk.

I'm preparing my offer sheet for Mike Green. Have to check if the team has enough draft picks to make it happen.
