Once again, one of the more level headed posters on this site is right.

Leafs no longer needed Aulie. He's been passed on the depth charts by Holzer and Gardiner, and Blacker is poised to pass him within the next season or two as well. Meanwhile, the leafs have no good big bodied young forwards with offensive potential.

This is trading from a strength to fill in a weakness, and it's Managing a Team 101. It's a hockey trade that makes sense for both Tampa and the Leafs.

Good luck to Aulie with the Bolts, he's a good kid and I hope he really flourishes there!

- Scruffton

100% fully agree with you on that one!

It's a decent trade by the Leafs in adding some talent to the forward ranks without really compromising the D at all.

The bigger question for me is what, if anything, is Burke going to do about trying to help the team make the playoffs this year?

- noondog

Hes going to do nothing and we will miss the playoffs and he will give every Leaf Fan a summer present by firing Wilson and Hiring Doug Gilmour.

I think both teams get something they needed, bolts d could not suck any worse and leafs get a big power forward with a lot of upside.

I think Boucher is going to love Aulie, just as much as I think Eakins is going to love Ashton.

God I hope Wilson gets fired soon and Eakins takes over coaching the leafs.

Solid post.

We flipped a big defenseman prospect for a big forward prospect.

Aulie was expendable, and nobody in our system projects top be in the mould of a Carter Ashton-type.

What about Carlyle?

I'd say it's a toss up between Eakins and Carlyle. I'd take either in a heartbeat.

Certainly there should be a pick coming TO's way ? Aulie straight up for Ashton ? Maybe, Burke and Stevie Y asked one another if they wanted to trade, both pulled out their rosters and start in alphabetically order, and ended at the letter A

Hope he's wrong. Not looking for Luca Caputi 2.0!!

Sounds as if it is a good trade for both clubs.

Apparently Lupul and Carlyle aren't too fond of each other, I'd rather have a young level-headed coach and have everyone start fresh than have an older coach. (nothing really wrong with Carlyle though).
