He has good upside. Has the tools, very coachable on his flaws. Strikes me as a Brooks Laich kind of player. - Cape Breton Bruins
Which is fine with me. |

Ashton is way more valuable to the Leafs than Aulie is. - BINGO!
Still not exactly earth shattering. Hell, it's not even a traditional "deadline deal" as he probably won't play a single game with the Leafs this year, just the Marlies. |

Carter Ashton is a good return. Big, physical winger with some good scoring touch. - BINGO!
Don't worry, by this summer the Toronto media will have built him up to be the best forward playing outside of the NHL. |

ASSETS: Has excellent size and NHL pedigree. Can play either wing position and displays power-forward potential. Also has a good nose for the net.
FLAWS: Is still somewhat raw in all aspects of the game, and must take advantage of his physical gifts. Needs to work on his play in the defensive zone.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Power forward with good upside.
I think it's a great trade. For all your hating on Schenn, you fail to see Aulie is worse. - mykokes
Aulie isn't worse....you just have no hockey sense. |

Once again, one of the more level headed posters on this site is right.
Leafs no longer needed Aulie. He's been passed on the depth charts by Holzer and Gardiner, and Blacker is poised to pass him within the next season or two as well. Meanwhile, the leafs have no good big bodied young forwards with offensive potential.
This is trading from a strength to fill in a weakness, and it's Managing a Team 101. It's a hockey trade that makes sense for both Tampa and the Leafs.
Good luck to Aulie with the Bolts, he's a good kid and I hope he really flourishes there! |

nice to see BB strengthening the marlies for their playoff run... |

Exactly. A matter of moving one asset for another where you have a specific need. Now its up to the coaching staff to develop the prospect properly. |

Good trade for both teams, Carter is a potential top 6 forward. He was a solid shut down guy at the world juniors - grim1911
A shut down guy at the WJC = Top 6 forward in the NHL? |

Oh damn we are screwed when he gets to the NHL and he has to try to be developed under Ron WIlson. |

It's a decent trade by the Leafs in adding some talent to the forward ranks without really compromising the D at all.
The bigger question for me is what, if anything, is Burke going to do about trying to help the team make the playoffs this year? |
|
|
|
Two teams with flexibility at certain positions make trade. Neither team loses; both teams benefit from taking advantage of other's system.
Carry on. |
