Schulz is what we've needed since Gator left. I like it.

That's actually not a bad comparison

If i'm making the lines there would be a vet with a younger player pairing.Whitney-Smid,Shultz-Petry(gives petry more freedom to jump up into the play),and Sutton- Potter.Next year Potter will be replaced by Klefbaum.

The Swed will be in Sweden, maybe the AHL, hes not good enough for NHL yet. GER and MULE looked better then him in WJR, so I dont think he will play here, plus the Oilers dont want to rush there players anymore.

Edit: Mule and Ger are the nicknames for Marincin, and Gernat, for those who dont know.

You think he plays the guys he feels are best, the least?

If every player had the same number of games played, and everyone's TOI/G didn't waver too much during the year, then TOI/G alone would be a fair marker of who the coach thinks is best. But obviously those things aren't even remotely close to true so TOI/G cannot alone tell you the quality of a player, depth wise. Who does the coach send out for the last shift of a game you're leading by a goal? That's probably your best guy.

Seeing the reaction of his teammates to the trade solidifies my opinion that we won this. Considering they are all as well trained in talking to the media as any politician, I basically read their reactions as "OH GOD why couldn't it have been anyone else? " I think Minnie now has a gigantic hole in their locker room.

It's not as simple as you're making it out to be.

Schultz gets more shifts at even strength than any other defenseman on the team. Even strength shifts truly show where a coach has a player on the depth chart. You're wrong on this one.

I never said it did, however it's probably a better marker then the random spots that fans want to place players on the depth charts.

Safe to say TAMBS is getting extended after today.
- FiretheGM

Was hoping for more action in the Oilers war room...should he be extended?

asides from everything else, he brings experience, leadership and steadiness on the back end that Gilbert will probably never be able to provide. you can't look at the numbers alone.

I always wonder why people bring this up, just because players play a different style doesn't mean you can't compare them.

Stamkos plays a different style then Steven Ott, but that doens't mean you can't say Stamkos >> Ott.

- Zombie

Of course you can compare them but it's ridiculous to suggest Gilbert is a far superior player. It's also ridiculous to use Stamkos and Ott as your comparison to make a point.

Both teams were trying to add a dimension they were lacking in this trade. Gilbert plays a different style of game. He has superior offensive skills but is weak defensively and physically.

On another note I wonder if Tambs tried to shop Omark at all.

If he signs Smyth for over 3.5 mill or over 1 yearEinstein duration he definitely should NOT....unless being conservative and selecting 1st overalls counts as being a (frank)ing genius....

Obviously not... That would have been easy to do unless they are asking for the moon... Not sure why Nashville would not have wanted him....

They'd have absolutely no use for him.

edit: Also, I don't see Omark really fitting in under a guy like Trotz.

Looking a little deeper..
Has a lot less giveaways than Gilbert, almost the same amount of takeaways.
Will be second only to Smid in blocked shots
2nd on Wild in total TOI, again only Smid will be ahead of him in this respect
Leads the Wild in Sh TOI.
Can play both sides on D.

Conclusion? Lose some offence, TOI numbers about the same, large gain on defence and toughness. The type of guy they need back there. Like I said, I like the trade.

We need him for the playoff push down the stretch here.

Do you actually watch hockey or just make lame comments?
It takes more than Minutes on Ice to be a hockey player.
Schultz is the NHLPA rep for the team and is the leader in and out of the locker room. As quoted by Cal Clutterbuck "he is the face of the Wild."
And when a player playes 17 games does not make him a better defenseman than a player who plays 62 games it makes him a call up.
By the way just for your Knowledge the average mins by the Wild defensemen are:
Spurgeon GP-60 ave TOI- 21:39
Scandella GP-44 Ave TOI- 20:49
Zidlicky GP-42 Ave TOI- 20:38
Lundin GP-17 Ave TOI- 20:12
Prosser GP-32 Ave TOI- 19:49
Schultz GP-62 Ave TOI- 19:36
Falk GP- 37 Ave TOI- 19:34
Zanon GP-39 Ave TOI- 18:37

So by your thinking the Wild just traded their #3 #6 and #8 defensemen in the last week or so. I see Schultz was 6th on the team for TOI. Yet never plays any P/P time.

Tyler Bunz is going to fit in nicely in Edmonton.
