Is everyone forgetting that Tom Gilbert was more often than not a turnover machine and as intimidating as hemsky (physically). It's not like this'll make or break us - jaredwildzee
That is why he is no longer here!!!! Gilbert had 2 good years here that was it.
He was alot better this year but Gilbert = SOFT |

Some people only equate offense with being good.
Strong defensive defensemen can be just as important, if not more, than puck moving D.
Good pick up. |

Quality competition says otherwise. 6th most difficult competition with the 3rd best teammates by Wild Defenders this season. He is a defensive defenseman who has been on the decline for the past 3-4 years. While Gilbert is a puck moving defenseman who is on the upswing for the past couple seasons. - MrSmitty
So by your rationale, are you telling me that Mike Lundin is the Wild's best defenseman? |

He was "more often than not a turnover machine" because he was the only Oiler D-man who could handle the puck.
Remember he spent most of last season with Peckham as his partner.
PECKHAM.
Against the other team's best.
Anyways:
Schultz-Petry
Smid - Gilbert
Sutton - Whitney
Potter
looks like a D that could make the play-offs
As it stands now, the 12-13 Dive for Five begins when the first injury hits.
A trade to bring a Schultz-like D-man should've been the goal; after the season, before the draft. |

He would've cost us a player similar to Hodgeson. Who would that be, Gagner? |

Hodgson isn't the same as Eberle. Gagner would be closer.
Either way I probably don't trade for Kassian because it would cost too much. I prefer Eager for now to be honest. |

Yup, Mitchell, Scuderi, even Greene to an extent.
That is how our D pairings are set up (Voynov, Doughty, and Martinez respectively). It's worked well for us.
That way you can always have one D who can pinch, while the other will stay at home. |

If i wanted to trade Eberle for a power forward I would want someone like Landeskog. Wouldn't want to trade Eberle at this point though, he's proven me a bit wrong this year. |

I'd say Lucic is who I'd be targeting if I'm dealing Eberle. |

As good as Lucic and Landeskog are, I doubt I would even do either deal. Eberle has a high ceiling in terms of potential. Not many 23y/o PPG+ players with hands like his and the abilty to score the big goals. Kid has ice water in his viens and is an easy player to play with. |

Interesting trade as it's just soft offensive Gilbert who is 29 to Minne for tough defensive Schultz who is 29. Does that mean Edm thinks Petry has made Gilbert tradeable? What does the addition of Schultz mean to Peckham, Barker. This is definatly a message trade to the players.
As for the fan whining that Schultz is Minne's #5 defenseman????/ Watch hockey much? Good trade for both teams and Edmontons defense just got a touch more solid. |

Not really.
As for kingbrehm, I know he's 12th. That's why I don't want to trade him. |

Yeah but tell that to Vancouver fans who say Hodgson> eberle... that one is always good for a chuckle... but that is what they say... |
