I am not sold on Gilbert. He was good once for a season. However he has a huge upside. He could be good again... he could be an offensive threat and thus have some trade value.

However I just can't agree with this trade. I would junk punch anyone that said this was a good idea. 3.5 million and 2 years if I remember correctly on Nick. I haven't had a chance to check though. I did get a chance to look at his number on this defensive dman. -10 this year? On a team out performing Edmonton. Gilbert is -4 on the second last team? Soft goals or no soft goals, I think that speaks for itself. In fact Shultz is -26 over the last 4 years and negative each year on a team that has done relatively well.

If my math is correct Shultz has played 16 less games on the better team and Gilbert still has roughly 6 times the points he does.

I am up for dumping gilbert but there is NO REASON to take Shultz. You are better to buy him out or trade him for a fourth round pick if you can't get better. There is no dman that edmonton has in the AHL that is worse than Shultz and 3.5 million is insane. Only thing I can think of is that Tambellini is planning on quitting edmonton in the offseason and wanted to stick it to them.

So could've Horcoff. Really let off at the end of that game, goes to show you the game isn't over until it's over. Glad we got the 2 points.

Oh and looks like the Flames are probably going to lose tonight, too bad the trades they made at deadline aren't working out for them...wait.

Good to see Nuge getting points in consecutive games...keeping that up will get him back into the lead for the Calder again...

His game has nothing to do with points, he is a defensive defence men. What do you not understand about that? his game is not about putting up points, but keeping the other team top players from scoring.

I'm still betting on him to win. You've got to think he gets bonus points for being so close to the top of rookies playing way less games.

I think he still gets it even if he is just close. How many games has he missed.

Still 20 games to go, wouldn't surprise me if he finishes on top. He's only 5 pts back of Henrique and 2 back of Landeskog with 13 and 22 less games played.
edit- I don't think that includes tonight

I look at it and see Landeskog with a +20, 4 PPP and 3 GWG, on a team that is not all that much better

Henrique missed some time, has 4 SHP, a strong F/O % and 3 GWG...

Nuge has missed considerable time and had the best ppg %...

Obviously I want Nuge to win, but a case can be made for the other two

We might be closing ground on some teams. We're two back of MTL with a game in hand. Both Carolina and NYI have harder scheds than us, and NYI plays 4 to our 3 this week. 26th here we come!

I think I completely reasonable goal for this team is to try and play better than .500 hockey for the rest of this season. I would much rather finish 20th and have a worse draft pick but faith that this team will be able to compete better the following year.

well if you see how montreal is in full fail for nail, or more like fail for second pick as no one is gonna finish worse than columbus, i dont think it is unreasonable for the oil to finish 4 or 5 spots ahead of where they are now.

12-8 over the last 20 would be 80 pts on the season, an 18 pt improvement from last year. Even 500 hockey would give us a 76 pt. finish.
