Going to post tomorrow's game blog a little earlier than normal because I will not get a chance to write it in the morning. It should be up in about 45 minutes to an hour from now.

Thanks Bill - 45 minutes should be plenty of time to cover the dizzying array of moves made by the team today.

Actually, I'm pretty happy they didn't make any moves today. The pieces they needed (a 4th line PK/faceoff guy) were not available at a price they could afford. I think they did the right thing in standing pat.

The Canucks got Sammy Pahlsson for two 4th rounders.

I think the Flyers coould have beat that but it is what it is.

The Flyers would have had to move a contract, and perhaps they weren't willing to do that to get under the limit and clear enough cap room.

I feel dirty for saying it, but I am kinda glad the Rangers won tonight vs. NJ. Barring a monumental collapse in the Big Apple, Philly isn't likely to catch them in the standings and NJ is 1 point behind Philly, with Philly currently having a game in hand. I know folks say that dropping to 6th and facing one of Wash, FLA, or Winnipeg would be favorable, but I hate the notion of backing into the playoffs. Win your games and let the seedings take care of themselves. Speaking of NYR, I will take 2 Philly wins against them as the Flyers motor through the stretch drive.

All about matchups.

I feel the Flyers have a decent shot against Florida, Jersey or Winnipeg. After that, it gets ugly.

Probably could have. But I'm not sure Pahlsson was worth it. He's 51% at the dot (not super, but not bad), and he is very slow. I'd rather hang onto the picks, but I wouldn't have been too upset if we had obtained him either. I just don't think he's anything that would have put us over the top. Rather let the young guys get those minutes and let them grow into the role. Guess we'll see how that works out.

Good point about the need to move a contract. Shouldn't have been too difficult if they really wanted to do it, but I guess we have to assume they didn't think Pahlsson was worth it.

Like I said before, I think letting the young guys get these crunch time minutes in the stretch drive and however many rounds of playoffs we can manage this year will pay off big time down the road. They'll be battle tested next year.

Call me an optimist, but I'd add the Pens to that list as well, assuming Bryz gets his head on straight. The Flyers are 2 soft goals and a third period meltdown away from being 3-0 against them. The current assessment might change if they get a truly healthy 87 back in the lineup, but as it stands now, I like the Flyers chances vs. the Pens. Caps don't really scare me either. They have been barely getting by all season, didn't add anything significant, and have all kinds of playoff demons haunting them. Ottawa will come back to earth in the postseason as well.

EDIT: I'll go so far as to say that if Philly gets decent goaltending, not even lights out, simply solid, they really only have New York and The Bruins to fear.

I just had a nightmare.
Rangers vs Preds in the SCFs.
Every game is 1-0 with three overtimes.

I could really be a fan of this guy if he'd just cut with the damn Versteeg impersonations

EDIT: Is K-U-k-l-a-s-c-o-r-n-e-r completely banned here? They have an awesome pic of simmer, with the mouthpiece hanging out a-la steeger and I did all correct to post said pic but I get a blank. I know they outed a certain blogger but a total ban of all material seems a bit over the top.

Anyway...quote me and you'll see the link.
