How is trading an NHL D man for a prospect and pick that not selling?

Only way I trade Carle is for an upgrade at D. Carle and a 4th for Visnovsky or something like that. It's just not likely.

fantasy scenario...

carle is moved to a team like CHI for a #1 pick and a prospect(s), then those assets are used to defray the cost of acquiring a young dman. JVR would have to be part of the deal.

the only reason to do it today would be to take advantage of carle's value, because it will never be higher. the young dman acquired, a subban-type, would be ready to play now and the flyers would be able to avoid the over-pmt circus of July 1.

not a likely scenario, but at least a logical thought process, imo.

He'd also look pretty dumb if there was a repeat of 2010 and the top seeds get nuked early and the Flyers are stuck with too few defensemen in the ECF.

I'm not closed minded to dealing Carle, but it sure as Hell ain't going to be for a prospect goalie

Only if somebody gives up a ton to get him. Dreger says the Flyers will listen, but if you're bidding on JvR, you'd better be shooting the moon in terms of an offer.

The Flyers are ALWAYS looking to make moves and they currently have a ton of trading chips to make something happen, and they will.

He was a rental, but he was also leading the NHL in assists at the time.

Also, what everyone seems to forget, the Flyers were in Tampa the night before and both Roenick and Primeau had knee injuries and they had no idea how badly either was hurt prior to the TDL.

Had there not been injuries the night before, there's no Oates trade. If Roenick and Primeau were out long term, the playoff centers would have been Jiri Dopita and Peter White.

Do not improve the bottom third of the NHL PK, and faceoff % with a solid checking line center.

I'm very confident all of the above will get done today.

As Bill points out, the Flyers don't always make a move on TDL day. As long as they avoid panic moves, I'm fine.

leave out the #1 pick because that would be flipped over to MTL, so it's carle and JVR for subban and maybe we we also have a better prospect left over. not a bad way to go for the flyers given carles likely salary demands.
