Maybe because we aren't trading Poulin, and Ottawa doesn't want Montoya....
XxNYIxX - XxNYIxX
Im sure there are other teams that may have some interest in Montoya. Bishop would be a great backup for next year, and Poulin I just do not see how "good" he is. Maybe he is not ready, but if you think hes our starter or even a back up that plays 20 plus games next year we are in trouble. |

first of all why would you trade a 20 year old goalie for a second round pick...everyone wants kill milbury yet a far majority want to act just like him. like i said tavares and hamonic are the only two untouchables on this team but i would not make a move for the sake of making a move - NYI78
I said offer that to get Bishop and then trade Montoya and poulin for something else. We could keep Poulin but Montoya would certainly be expendable. |

Right now, I want PAP and Nabby to stay, whether they are re-signed or not. I would rather have them for the stretch here and know that management is truly committed to making the playoffs. If they walk in the summer, so be it.
Personally, I feel that if this team comes close to the playoffs this year, players will be more inclined to play here. If we make the first round and PAP and Nabby have a strong run, I think they'll stay.
But, if I'm Nabby during these negotiations, I have to be asking what Garth's plan is to sure up the D. |

If he doesn't sign.... You guys already have it on your head that it's because of DP... No matter what the reason you have already created the next topic to whine about into next season... Nicely done

According to bob mckenzie, and Chris botta that's the hold up as well. I didn't just make this up. |

I'd be quite upset if nabby doesn't sign because they can't promise him about diptero. If Rick plays another game for the isles And it costs them the chance to hae a legit number one then we are even in worse shape then we think. - Isles316

Regardless of nabby staying or not, I'll ask you this. How can this team trot out diptero and expected to be taken seriously by anyone including the players? I feel bad for the guy. I know he wants to be part of this team but he cant play more than 8 games in 2 months without his knees swelling up and when he does play, he is among the leagues worst. He is holding this franchise back AND if its true that nabby not re singing has ANYTHING to do with dipietro then this management team is highly (frank)ed and so is the teams future and it's a big screw job to the fan base and the current players on the team. |

For the sake of telling the other side of the story, I'd say that I feel the opposite. The team hasn't really done enough at any time this season to show that it is a legitimate option to win the race for 8th. I know they're 8 points out, and sure, it's certainly possible. I guess I'd feel differently if they were 13th and 8 points out now after being 7th-9th all season long. In that case, they'd have shown at some point in time that they can actually hang in there at or very near a playoff spot. The fact that the team has been in 13th-15th for most of the season...and has convincingly blown a few shots get right into that 7th-9th mix...I would play the odds and say it's not worth keeping players that they'll likely lose for nothing after the season.
The rebuild clearly isn't over yet, and it's going to take a bit longer than originally planned. You know what? I've resigned myself to that and am fine with it as long as management learns from some of the setbacks and corrects them. But not trading assets you likely can't keep when they're at their highest value will set this whole thing back even more unnecessarily. |

If the isles keep nabby and can add a legit top pairing d man, they will take a jump forward next year especially with cizikas, ulstrom, rkhshani etc playing instead of old balls Jensen.

I say if we can not sign Nabby and PAP we should package them for a top 6 forward or top four d-man...and picks |

Bishop to Ottawa for a conditional 2nd. Why couldn't we offer that and get rid of Monty and Poulin for something? - mighty13duck

Pure and simple, DP due to his contract should be in camp along with a legit starter, Poulin, Nielsson, Montoya and the best one should get the job, the next best one should be the backup... The next 2 best should bein Bridgeport..... On that sinario, in all reality, DP should end up as BP's backup. If he does better than that. Awesome more power to him, buti don't see it

Out of those four, none are capable of being NHL starters. Montoya is a solid back up at best. The kids aren't ready.
The isles would have no shot at making playoffs if that's the scenario at camp. None. |

A "legit starter" is not going to accept having to come to camp and fight for a roster spot. I think he'd understand that if he craps the bed, that the backup will take a number of starts in his stead, but any kind of goaltender that's truly worth it isn't going to come to camp essentially as a tryout...just on the principle of the thing. Imagine signing a star FA forward and telling him, "No guarantees, buddy. If we feel like it, you could be starting in the AHL." If he bombs, sure, maybe he gets waived, traded, etc. But a star FA forward goes to camp expecting a top-six roster spot, and a starting FA goaltender will sign with a team expecting to be its starting goaltender. |

There is always a "Ray Emery" looking for a job.. Id prefer Nabby next season.. but if he's not gonna sign... give this team to Poulin or Neilsson
