I'd give Suter 6 tops... and thats only if we have to outbud someone
- fecondo

I'd be prepared to have no chance at getting Suter, then.

If we learned anything this year without Pronger it's that you need depth. No you don't let Carle walk. He's very comparable to Suter who everyone is salivating over and injuries are just too much of a reality. You can't bank on MAB and Guss. Remember Bartulis and Parent? If Carle's value is 5 million there's no reason to lose him unless you know for certain you have an equal replacement waiting in the wings, Grossman and Kubina are not that. Gustafson maybe but again young dmen have wilted countless times in our very eyes. Now I'm done.
- JoeRussomanno

Now you're just putting words into my mouth. Where did I or anyone say signing Suter means MAB or Gus are going to see significant time on the team. Here's what I'm looking at.

Kimmo
Suter
Mezzy
Coburn
Grossman
Cheap Vet

Sorry, I just disagree that we need to resign Carle. I'd trade his rights after the season if Suter is indeed going to become available.

He will get more because he's a UFA & also playing with Weber helps his standing as well, when I see them play, Weber is a T Rex out there, and Suter makes solid plays & is an excellent compliment, but what will Suter be paid & expected to be a #1 somewhere?

I watch a good amount of Suter, I know what my eyes tell me. He's better than Carle by a significant margin. And the same folks who said Pronger didn't carry Carle, are now using the argument that Suter is riding Weber's coattails.

This will all be settled July 1st, we will see what General Managers think of the two players. Their contracts will answer the question of what player is more valuable.

- PLindbergh31

Suter is an all around better defenseman, period. He will demand more on the open market than Carle. The numbers are close but you have to look at scoring difference. Carle plays for a high powered offense and Nashville stuggles to score goals. Suter is a number one defenseman in this league, I cant say that about Carle and thats not a knock on him. Now is Suter worth $2M more a year then Carle, thats the GM's job to decide.

I'd be okay with that. Id rather see the 6 dmen we have now out there again next year. Rather than spend a boatload in free agency and try to work around the cap all season.

Suter 58 - 7-29 - 36 pts +11 26:39 minutes

Carle 60 4-26 - 30 pts +4 22:55 minutes

Carle is not worth 5 mill but Suter is worth 7 mill????

And who plays with Weber???

I knoe he'll be offered more. Im just saying that is ehat id be willing to offer. That and the prospecr of playing with kimmo mez coburn grossman and kubina/carle depending on who grts resigned. Idk if theres a better 2-6 in the league. That might be incentive enough to takr a little less. Probably not... but its nice ro dream.

I'd be fine with signing Carle, if we could get him for three or five years at as close to $5m as possible. If I'm doing that, though, I'm still looking for a #1 defenseman. There's no shortage of work to be done on this defense corps over the next season or two.

Likewise, if I sign Suter I'm keeping an eye out for another solid top four defenseman. We're going to have to fill in Timonen's spot in a season, and the season after Meszaros'.

Have we traded for Nash, Ott, Suter, Brown, Giggy and Bernier yet?

Yes, Jody Shelley and an 8th round pick for all of the above.

I said I'd love Nash to play with Giroux, he'd get 50 a year, and I got stones thrown at me, "o his cap hit", & "he only scores 30"

But Suter is worth Nash's $ & will be a #1 elsewhere, without Weber, that's a tall order.
Would I like him, yes, not for $7 million, I would go all out more for Weber, but not Suter.

What have they been over a three year span? Add the difference in goals scored compared to the Flyers. Nashville is more known for their defense and goaltending. Who on that team is considered a legit threat offensively? Erat, Fisher, and Kostitsyn.

I think every team is looking for a #1 guy constantly. I mean how many are there really? I can only think of a handful off the top of my head. So i understand why everyone wants to go after him, i just don't want to break the bank doing it.

Actually:

Suter 3 g 21ppp

Weber 7g 17ppp

I know this is what your getting at. I would say he does an excellent job QB the PP (Weber/Suter both do). I think he does as much as Weber on the PP.

how come no one is making the point that Suter has Rinne and a more defensive structured system around him versus Carle who has had patch work goalies behind since being a Flyer and a less structured defensive system?

How does this change the value of said player?

The one thing I am sure of, Suter has a much better shot then Carle.

That is Carle's weakness, lack of a good shot. Not a very good PP QB.

I dont think anyone is saying that Carle is a bad defenseman. Suter is just the better all around player. The market will determine a players worth, so we shall see come summer time. I think Suter gets $6.5-7M per and Carle gets $5-5.5M per, IMO.
