I had a guy tell me carle turns the puck over every shift and he was serious as a heart attack. When I showed him Carle turns over the puck less than once a game he came up with, well he never hits nobody so we should get suter. I brought up Suter never hits nobody at least not much more than Carle and at least Carle is willing to sacrifice himself by blocking shots more. Then I was told he's the worst excuse of a Defenseman and that this gentleman has been following the team since 1968 and knows more about the team than I do. I let him think he won at that point, Gov. Christie's cutbacks on the mental health care system appeared to have taken an extreme toll to me.

You and that other guy, are you brothers or something. Or maybe even the same blogger. You keep saying the same thinks and you have each others back. Suter is better than Carle by a country mile so start watching these other guys before you speak. The other guy that starts with a J seems to know just about everything and I just want to offer an opinion.

Read is untouchable due to his cap hit
- hereticpride

True, insane efficient cap hit, but to play devil's advocate...I don't fully buy he is legit (streaky, take his 6 goal in 5 game streak out and he has just 10 on the season, last goal was Feb 2nd), Brown is legit, only 2yrs older, signed to a very reasonable cap hit for his established production level and brings a different and currently underrepresented playstyle, imo. I actually think Read's cap hit is what makes him so uniquely touchable, you don't have to give up a jvr/couturier/schenn to get that type of value from a team. Once that goes away by him fizzling out (at least the perception), you have only those true blue chips to fall back on.

Worst Case Scenario, Read becomes a 20-30g/yr player for the next 3 yrs at just 900k/yr cap hit before he gets a major raise anyways while they pay Brown 3.75M for the same goal production and have to play Rinaldo and Brown instead of Voracek and Read. Is that really all that terrible? I mean Brown basically is 2/3 covered by Voracek's money alone.

Absolutely. Between 6-7 rookies in the lineup most of the year. That's a ton of youth and mistakes are to be expected.

They have cut the number of rookies down by 2 with the additions of the two veteran d-men. Their blueline has all veterans now, if Bryzgalov can steady his play, this team can still make itself a tough out in the playoffs.

If bryz plays like a #1 and if our forwards play tighter defensively i can see us making a deep run.
That said... if we have to play the rags or bruins we'll need bryz to steal a game or two.

No question about that. A loss tonight, coupled with an Ottawa win over Boston, hello # 7 seed.

Bryzgalov is signed to a 9 year deal, unless he is a total sunken cost, Bobrovsky isn't going to be anything more than a backup in Philadelphia. And Bobrovsky isn't in the same class as far as being a prospect as Bernier, Rask, or Schneider.
- PLindbergh31

I agree Schneider and Rask are the real deal while Bernier has really proved nothing at the nhl level but has huge potential. If Bob were to get traded I think he would blossom but in Philly the mental abuse he has gone through may be too much to overcome here. I really like Bob but have to agree his stock has fallen a bit.

Bryz's play tonight determines if Snider/Holmer gets another goalie.

Once Pronger was lost for the season, that adjusted my expectations. Simply no way to overcome it.
- PLindbergh31

I agree. I was talking about expectation before the start of the season.

Of course the expectations change for every team over the course of a season because of injuries, off years by players, etc. The number of rookies in the lineup was by necessity, not by design.

Have Suter paired with rookies for most of the season and then tell me he's better by a countey mile. No question he's better but idk if he's a 7mil/yr kind of better.

Nah. Making a move for a goalie doesn't make much sense.

I am okay with your opinion but Suter plays much tougher, a very heads up player that see the ice very well. He can also shoot the puck and get it to the net with authority whereas Carle's are so weak and pathetic they normally do not get through. For the extra money I take Suter because of the quality player he is.

He could blossom outside of Philly. People have to realize he's only 23, and has started 70 games in a new Country in a league with different rules not to mention a smaller ice surface. I think patience is the best way to view Bob.

If they do get Giggy as rumored they are back to square one. Play Bryz 9 out of every 10 and take your chances. He just might get back to form. Getting another goalie just kills any confidence that Bryz and Bob have right now. A very bad message despite their lacklustre play.

Fair enough. Although I'm sure you, as most of us, thought our offense would have neen oir weak point at the beginning of the season. Obviously that hasnt been the case.

Personally i figured we'd make the playoffs as a 7 seed and then whatever happened happens.

That hasn't happened yet has it? Panicking based on 40 starts of Bryzgalov would be shortsighted.

Agreed. Not to mention there really isn't a way to bring in another goaltender without trade Bobrovsky.

Totally agree, Bob will be a solid starter in the nhl one day. I do not know the destination but there will be one.

Curious question for everyone...

Based on just higher end UFA's, how many players have actually worked out on par or better, stat production wise?
Take Briere for instance, I feel he has been a good signing for the Flyers, but he hasn't come close to being a consistent 95 point scorer.

Now what about RFA's?
Obviously so far Giroux has worked out well, but even sure bet players such as AO and Crosby haven't technically matched their production after their big contract extensions.
