There actually was a hit right around then that Canucks are claiming. So it is up to the NHL to call the Canucks liars and prove it. They do have the video and it was a hard hit. - VANTEL
No way this is a fake injury, unless even the local media are in on it. I've being seeing progress reports from Botch and co on Ballard getting on the bike, light training, traveling not traveling, etc for weeks. |

I know we did, but it wasn't at quite the same level as this one. Still, I suppose you're right in that it can never be ruled out. I just don't think it's the case this time. - AlexF
It was .Gillis and Gillman are brilliant cap benders. They foresee things we never do. I guess that is why for weeks they were not concerned about the cap and were snooping at every deal. 10 games ago you and I were thinking Ballard could be moved to clear cap and they were thinking we can use Ballard as insurance in the playoffs and still go get our depth guy. That is why you and I sit here and they see the games for free. |

You definitely get the impression something is brewing though, bigger than a 4th line signing. |

Yes I say 1 D and Ott

What a mistake taking on that contract would be. |

It's what I think we've all agreed for some time has been needed. Who that D might be is the big question. |

Yeah but Dustin Brown would be ok |

Allen seems to be the biggest fish in play ,but I would go for Ott first then worry about the D. |

Ya, he'd be a good pickup. Reasonably priced and only on the books for one more year. I think the Canucks need a top 4 d-man more than they need another forward. |

Ballard out for the rest of the season? Hard not to go all in for D now. Ott takes too many penalties for the Canucks, anyway
Couldn't agree more. |

It's the only injury where doctors rely on the patient for information. Ballard can work out as much as he wants, stay in tip top shape, but remain on LTIR as long as he needs to with "symptoms"... Very fishy IMO... |

Funny cuz my first thought about Ott was that he'd need to learn some control in VAN. Taking stupid penalties would get him in AV's dog house super quick. But we all know refs swallow their whistles in the playoffs so maybe Ott might be a decent pitbull to unleash with impunity. |

Same concerns everyone had about Lapierre, and he's been a great addition. I'd like to see a breakdown of how often a guy like Ott takes the only penalty in a situation... I'm betting he has more coincidentals & misconducts padding his PIM stats than bad 2 min minors. |

If you look at Eager and all the idiotic penalties he took last year against us (he subsequently got benched the next game) it can cause issues. I don't think anyone is as moronic as Eager though. |
