For some reason, I really hate this trade. Zidlicky is 35 and seems to be on the downside of his career with one year left at $4M. The Devils are roughly taking on another $500k in cap space and giving up a couple of draft picks AND three players? Granted, it's not like they're mortgaging the future, but Palmieri and Foster should have done it.
I guess it's the second rounder (via Washington) that's really irking me. we're conceivably talking about a high second rounder, especially the way the Caps are tanking, in a very deep draft year. The second round pick alone should have been enough to get a guy who didn't want to play in Minnesota anymore and would really only waive his NTC to go specifically to NJ.
I'm hoping Lou has some more tricks up his sleeve, but this is feeling like another **wah-wah-waaaaaaaah** trade deadline for us. |

Salvador makes a lot of stupid mistakes at times and is prone to give aways in the d-zone. Maybe defensively yes, but Salvador makes a lot more stupid mistakes in the defensive zone then you see Fayne making most of the time, as Fayne gets the puck out a lot cleaner and crisper than Salvador.
Salvador doesn't offer much except his defense. Fayne has more to offer than that. - _Zippy_
When does Salvador make stupid mistakes? I haven't seen him make many. He has been solid since he struggled early in the year. |

He doesn't make that good of decisions with the puck under pressure.
Him and Volchenkov turn the puck when the other team has a high pressure forecheck, that's the main thing that irks me with both of them, and that they can't contribute to the offense at all.
That goes into being a good defenseman nowadays, I am not talking about just the offense. |

Mhm.
If anything, blame Nashville for giving up so much for Hal Gill. |

I'm not concerned particularly about yielding any of the three players. I think Palmieri has some potential, but obviously you have to give something to get something, and Palmieri is not a difference maker of any sort.
I am somewhat concerned about the draft picks. Especially given the last few years the Devils have gotten good prospects after round 1 (Merrill, Gelinas). But the main thing is that I'm not enormously into acquiring Zidlicky because I'm just not a huge fan. Someone else said this, and I think it may be true...that maybe Tallinder's done for the year. If so, that explains the urgency to get another experienced d-man. So if that is the case, I understand a lot better the rationale behind it. |

They consulted Jacques on Zidlicky, so if Lemaire said he is good, then the trade is good in my books. |

Zidlicky asked both Dave Barr who was the assistant coach with Minny last year and Lemaire, who coached Zidlicky. They must have had positive reviews or else the Devils wouldn't have gotten him.
Simply said, Zidlicky wants to come here and has openly said it, hopefully it'll make him work hard to stay, and Lamoriello considers him a top-two defenseman in the league and tried to get him when he was on Nashville, so there is something the Devils scouting sees about him. |

The Canucks were dead tired. Schneider stole that for us.
What are you guys willing to give us for Schneider in the offseason? |

Nothing we really have unless he is part of a package for Parise.
What would you guys need?
We could give up Tedenby+(one of our better prospects)+2nd maybe...? |

Tough loss , sucks we couldn't score , I like the addition of Zidlicky we get Larsson back and our D will be looking alot better . Now we should trade Zajac , Harrold , Tedenby , Taromina and a pick for Nash . |

Would be tough to manage , would have to add a second roster player to the equation to make it work , or they could pick a cheaper rental type but I think we could use an extra punch on the 2nd line |

More like Zajac + Tedenby/Josefson + Merrill + Taormina + a 1st. Not sure it would work for cap, though.
Either way, no chance. |

What about Zajac , Mills , Taormina , for Martin St Louis ? Tampa won't make the playoffs would be a great move for the future of Tampa they could just shut Zajac down until next season .. (Sykora Elias St Louis) |

No, St. Louis is old and he signed that deal to end his career in Tampa. No way he is traded. That team needs leadership, not for it to be traded away. |

Well I trust Lamoriello's opinion much more than I trust my own. I hope he's right. When you say "top-two" I assume you mean a top-pair type?
My concern is from a defensive standpoint. When I look at top pairs, I look at what say Bieksa and Hamhuis are accomplishing as a tandem. But I trust Lou, and it never hurts to hear positives from others who have been connected with the Devils and know how they do things. |

The Devils really played well over the final 30 minutes. Schneider's really, really good. He's so consistent, it's ridiculous. He's big, moves well laterally and he is just about always square to the shooter. There were a few chances that we shot wide just because there's so little to shoot at. And the D did a good job blocking shots too. The Henrique-Kovy-Parise line could have had two or three goals tonight. |

Yeah, Schneider was the best Canuck. The team looked tired. Still, Having a back-up that good, these kinds of wins are pleasing but not totally unexpected. The kid can play! |
