I disagree somewhat, this team was 1st in the WC a month ago and for much of the first few months. I think SB will overpay, just for a guy he and hockey ops are sold on. They're not going overpay for a guy that they or more importantly Q doesn't think will fit in/help the team. Seeding doesn't mean much in the NHL, once the playoffs get here the team's who get hot will advance.

However I am concerned if they don't make a move with the recent injuries. All signs point to Monty being done for the year possibly and Hammer had a setback. Last but not least we can't forget about that Toews fella.

Unless your club finishes 9th...then it matters somewhat.

Also, you may recall the the Wild were also tops in the west around the holidays. How did that work out? Being first at midseason means little if a clubs deficiencies result in a second half tumble. Count me with those that saw problems, wanted corrections, but are still waiting for change.

The reality is SB screwed up. He went for prospects that are STILL not ready to produce at the NHL level.... even by next season. (pirri, saad, morin, danault, mcneil, etc). What he should have done after the cup was go after more players on entry level contracts like wheeler, simmonds, foligno, to name a few. Now the concern is that by the time these prospects (which JJ has pointed out are NHL quality but not top NHL quality prospects) the core you are counting on may not be there. Careful... when owners are playing for the future they tend to 'always' be playing for the future. You have a great core NOW.... You should be playing for NOW. JMO.

We shall see if your formula works out in Pilly this year. My guess is Holmgren is fired after Flyers are bounced in the first couple of rounds.

They were in first with a 100% healthy team, playing their core maximum minutes, and playing a ridiculously easy schedule. They won the games they should have while burning out their core. Now injuries are occurring. It's not rocket science. When you take an 8th seed team and deduct Campbell, Kopecky, and Brouwer while not adding any players of value back...... you are not a better team. Stan should have been spending that cash he's been sitting on before he burned out his core.

All I know is...Philly may not have won a cup since the 70's, but they consistently put highly competitive clubs on the ice. I don't follow the Flyers closely, but they are rarely bad and haven't had a bad stretch of seasons since the early 90's.

He didn't the first time...admitted he phucked up and answered the bell the next time and got clobbered, but he's not a fighter. He's a faceoff guy extraordinaire. I'm not crazy about him as a player, but he'd be a good addition.

No clue regarding our cost, but I'd take Gaustad. Big fella who wins draws.
Not fond of the rental idea, but if we could sign him...terrific.

2 Stanley cups in 8 appearances. Missed the playoffs 7 times (5 straight in the 90s) in its 44 year existence. I'm actually pretty impressed with the flyers this season. Everyone said they couldn't score without Richie and Carter. now they lead the league in scoring... with 11 rookies on the team at one point (8 players had their 1st NHL goal this season). Their captain has played 13 games this season. Bryz is a complete disaster. 6 players were out with concussions including briere, giroux, schenn, and jvr. What did they do..... Acquire more depth at the trade deadline. I'm proud of my team not making excuses for a bad season.... But trying to find a way to win instead. I think homer is doing a nice job.... even though I don't see the flyers getting past the 2nd round unless Bryz finds hits way out of the woods.

The hawks need to stop making excuses.... Stanley cup hangover, injuries, don't want to overpay.... And start finding ways to just make it happen.... That's how they can model themselves after successful teams like Detroit which is what I keep hearing the hawks are trying to do. Jmo.

Roman Hamrlik is available. Is he useful at all? Assuming he'd be cheap.

Hey, I'm right there with you on all your points. The one concession I'll give the Hawks, and perhaps I'm wrong, and that's the feeder system. The Hawks are still improving in that area and it does take time. Drafting quality players and developing them is not an overnight process.

Ok, so I looked up Brassard's numbers. He is Mr. minus and horrible at the dot. He is gritty and will hit but is he really "the answer" at center? Is he worth a 1st round pick? Good cap hit, potential 50 points (20g 30a) with Hossa and Sharp but really?

He's a minus player, who also plays for the worst team in the league.

Yeah, I know that stat is not all that important, and having seen him play some this year and last, I remember liking what I saw. Just don't know that I'd give up a ton for him especially if he wins draws at a 43% clip. We have Bolland for that! JJ mentioned that they like Stalberg? Plus Pirri and a 1st? NO. Unless they throw in McKenzie or Dorsett.

I think an interesting question for hawks fans would be what kind of team would you like the hawks to be moving forward? Seems to me they have an identity crisis.

Technically Sound like Detroit, big and bruising like the Bruins, strong defensively/in net like Nashville, fast and skilled, etc. seems they are still trying for fast and skilled but the personnel they are bringing in are old and slow.

We've been asking Stan and Q that same question for over a year. Thanks for reminding me that we have no identity...while you're at it , why don't you me give a nice paper cut and pour lemon juice on it.

If Brassard is the center we get Im ok with it , He does have a lot of skill. Id love to know what D man is available at this point in time ? Grossman and Kubina might have been it. Im so pissed at Stan Bowman right now. He's got 44 hours to change my mind. This team as constructed will not be favored in any play off series

in my opinion this team was looking for some help from their gm
if stan does not make a move there is a good chance they dont make the playoffs

stan put the expectations for adding players at the trade deadline into everyones head and if he does nothing he should resign monday evening

remember this team would be in even worse shape if the rookies that were not expected to be on the roster played as well as they have
