give me some suggestions rick?
- wonthecup10

Buffalo has alot of small forwards and are short on centers and cap space. And Darcy Regier is as slow to move on trading players as Bowman is, maybe worse.

Stalberg and Morin would have to be in the package for sure. Or Bolland for Roy straight up and then Chicago won't do it.

And thus 2 more million we can't dedicate to the support people, making the Hawks even MORE TOP heavy. Adding two million to that position is a terrible move. And Nash IS NOT freaking Gretzky here.

Honestly, I have no issue moving Sharp, but it's to open up some room to improve the supporting cast, because having a great 'core' gets you in the middle. It's those role players that acutally count.

You worry too much about the cap hit next year. I want to win this year. In the offseason you move out Hammer and replace him with Olsen, automatic savings of $2.5M. And then buy out that horrible waste of money Montador.

That's all you can do. Some kids just won't have "it".

The funny thing is...my oldest has "it" but he's not a talented athlete. He has made himself a good goalie by work and determination, technique, and WANT.

The youngest despite his size has great instinctive talent, coordination and raw skill, but right now is driven like a dump truck with 3 flats. Sometimes he just won't go.

You take what genetics, fate, and hard work roll you and move on the best you can. When my 12th grade year ended so did my baseball career. I had no offers from schools to even walk on, no interest, no nothing...because while I was a 3 year letter 2nd baseman with a .400+ OBP, I just was not good enough. But I am OK with that because I did the best I could and I am proud of what I did.

My kids will know that, because one day they to will have to hang up those dreams. The oldest still harbors aspirations about playing big time college hockey, but we live in friggin Virginia and while the Northern Va is growing with hockey, he is on the ice at most 4 times a week. Compared to kids on the ice not just 7 times a week, but twice each day. No chance. I won't squash his dreams...Just do the best you can. That's the rule.

Im glad you guys are talking about this. THIS IS WHY I LIKE HOCKEYBUZZ , linking hockey fans together. Im 30 , played AA forever , my son is 4 and I took him skating and learn to skate at Bensenville , he shows NO INTEREST . I am totally ok with that since he seems to enjoy t ball and gymnastics more. My wife wants to keep pushing him into hockey but I told her if he doesn't want to skate he doesn't want to skate, plus 4 may be too young. At his learn to skate class there was 10 year olds and I know he was like "Holy poop"

When did you guys know your kids wanted to play or did they tell you ?

Amen Paulish. You're doing the right thing. Your son will find the thing that lights him up. It still may be hockey. If not, no big deal.

I will say .. "learn to skate" for little guys sometimes is a loser. My youngest did those and HE was also bored. In fact, the youngest can barely tolerate positional drills where the only thing that is done is a faceoff and an initial move to an area. HE HATES stuff like that. But he has to learn.

As they get older they'll start to understand the value of skating. Hell, I take skating lessons every two weeks and all I do is play adult hockey. It's not fun doing crap like one footed 3-point turns and working outer edges while going backwards, but I see the results when I play. Eventually the kids will too.

You wanna get your boy a fare shot into hockey? Try this...Suit him up and take him to a stick-n-shoot (or stick-n-puck, whatever they are called in your area), give him a stick and let him chase a puck around the ice.

My youngest loathed the learn to skate stuff..SnowPlay Sam 1...etc etc...although that's how you learn to skate, but when I put him in gear and we went to play hockey he had a blast. Yours may as well.

Edit: if he's a baseball player do this ONE thing for me. DONT YELL Elbow Up to him...the biggest, fraudulent myth in baseball history. The elbow up came from a drunken tavern somewhere. Hands up? Sure...but forget the elbow up crap. "Squash the bug" is more silliness. Don't do that either.

My opinion only - I'd let him gravitate to what he shows you he likes best. 4 is still a baby, at 6 he might want to do it more.

Over time, show him how to swing a golf club, a baseball bat, catch a football, try roller blading, ride a bicycle.

Thats the thing. I know he can skate when he wants to because his mom and younger sister are there in the stands and he wants to go by them . SO I leave him at center ice, the zambonie door is behind the goal like and I twill him "See ya later im going by mommy." And like a miracle he skates from center ice by himself out the zambonie door and walks up to the stands , haha. I figure if I keep askinghim if he wants to go skating he'll say yes when he wantsto go. Now my daughter on the other hand seems to have the desire to skate and want to play, any y'all hav daughters that want to go the hockey route ?

No doubt Rick. Thats the way I feel. I also told the wife IF he does play we wont be holding him back and if he plays travel then guess what youth hockey is a 12 month a year sport now, if he plays house so be it and enjoy the game. Wife is finally starting to under stand. Not to mention that house elegy is 1000 a year now. Im afraid that hockey might price itself out.

I have 3 sons. 8, 6, 3. I also have Blackhawks seasons which exposed them to the game very early. Most were at the UC days after they were born... So I try my oldest on skates around 4. He learned to skate and hated it. Cried the whole ball of wax. So we moved on. My middle guy I started a little before 3. He was similar in a sense that he cried while he was learning not wanting to go. But when he got home, he would play hockey 24x7. Always had a stick in his hand and had serious skill. So I decided to grit my teeth at the rink for about 6 months. Best decision I made as he is flying around now at 6 playing travel. No kid is going to like learning to skate, it's tough. But if they like hockey in general, you got to get through it. My 3 year old has lived at the rink so it's no big deal to him. He even carries his own bag. Hilarious... My 2 cents.

Let her play. And I can tell you from experience that on the ice playing hockey when girls get older they say much worse things to each other than boys do. Some of it is unbelievable.

And get the girl swinging a golf club, cut down to proper size of course.

I know that , there was 1 female on my teams until Pee Wees , at that time in the mid 90s girls started to have their own teams, its just funny , I don't want to discourage her at all , im not thrilled about her wanting to skate though to be honest. Nerves I guess.

My daughter started pkaying hockey at 8 and golf at 10. During the summer she played amateur golf in tournaments in Canada and the U.S. Ultimately decided golf was her game and got a full ride scholarship to Tennessee. Then the school gave her a 2 year scholarship to complete her Masters.

As you say, it's an opportunity for girls because of Title 9. Only the very exceptional boy golfer gets a full ride. Most of them get room and board but not tuition.

- mvp0207

You're a retard? We just signed sharp to an extension which we did to keep him here, plus the other assets for a guy who puts up 70 points possibly a year and can play only one position unlike Sharp who can play wing or center. Jeez, I think some posts in here should just not be posted.

P.S. Ever heard the statement" think before you speak?"

Yep, all that makes sense. I have no faith my daughter will work hard and hone her craft at jack crap. She has quit everything she tried...thought we found her calling in swimming...so her first meet, she as an 8 year old wins HER first time EVER in the 25 backstroke, 50 free style and 25 breast. She didn't swim butterfly...so she wins ALL THREE of her first meets and?

Hasn't been in a freaking pool since.

She gets beaten mercifully by her brothers for that. Her oldest brother is beyond disgusted, but I can't force her to do it. It is what it is.

However, shes never swung a golf club, maybe high time to expose her to that sport.

I would part with bolland before I parted with Stalberg as Bolland is injured often, is expensive, and lacks the speed Stalberg does, plus stalberg can do just about everything Bolland can besides play a full defensive mid ice. And with Stalberg being young I am sure he could acquire that skill over time.

All of this overvaluing of some players on the Blackhawks reminds me of the Bulls about 5-6 years ago when Paxson couldn't break up Heinrich, Gordon, Deng, Noah, and company because they were too valuable to trade and ready to take it to the next level. How many championships did that team win?

Sharp = Star
Nash = Superstar

Nash > Sharp

If some of you can't get this through your heads, may God have mercy on your souls.

- Dannyboy

Um, no.... Get it through your head... How many cups has Nash won? Think before you speak because Nash is extremely over fricken rated. I will give that he is great, but I will take sharp any day over Nash and that isnt a bias decision either. Sharp puts up consistent numbers every year as well as can play forward and center, and he is super fast. The only he doesnt have is a big body to knock people around, but a guy with his skills doesn't need a big body to smash people into the boards. Whoopty doo.... So, nash outdoes Sharp in one area... But again how many consistent years has Nash had, and how many stanley cups has he won. I would like to choke you right now you're such a moron.
