Man, I know I was the leader of the "bench Smithson" pack....but, I have to admit, hearing that he was traded makes me very, very sad. Was hoping that he'd becoming part of the coaching staff, instead. I love that guy.

I think DP has 9 picks for next draft class, some decent guys in the AHL and some good 4th liners...

Lets see what DP can do in the next 72 hours.

There's no need to make this deal unless something else is in the works, and trading a roster forward suggests DP is making room to get a forward without giving up any others, no? I dont think Linback gets traded until after the season.
If so, who's out there that could be had for D, prospects and picks?

no tribute to Arnott doesn't bother me.

Preds sure as heck better put something together for Smithson when/if he comes back on another team. Shed a tear on that one. So many intangibles but he'd clearly lost a step and they have too many younger guys that can provide the same on ice contribution. Off ice, not so much...

Poile must have something up his sleeve.. wont be a dull weekend for Preds I think.

I'm starting to think DP is going to sit on his hands and do nothing. I think he knows suter is gone and webber is probably a long shot, so why would he try to get a forward to try and appease suter or webber for 2 to 3 months. I think DP will play the hand he has...

I disagree. There's no need to trade smithson if that were the case. In fact, you need him for depth in a playoff run.

DP is close to a deal. The question is who?

Just curious, why do u think that?do u think smithson was traded to make room or to get the additional picks to use in a trade?

Smithson was like Fiddler. The epitome of a team player and a great guy. It is sad to see him go and to be reminded that nothing is forever...I am thinking he is the kind of guy the Predator organization will find a place for when he's done playing.

Video tribute? Hell yes.

It's definitely tough to see him go. I was a Kings fan in L.A. when he broke in to the league, and he was a familiar face that helped ease my transition from Kings fan to Preds fan when we moved here.

Marek Zidlicky for Kurtis Foster, Stephane Veilleux, Nick Palmieri, 2nd round pick and a conditional pick......Lou must have been smoking crack when he agreed to this deal.

I think he was traded to clear roster space. Smithson's 800k cap hit is meaningless, so that's not it. While he may have been on a bit of a slide recently Smithson is exactly the kind on depth guy you need around - good on face offs and PK, physical in the corners and able to grind it out, a good depth guy to have around in case of injury.

Trading him opens up a roster spot for DP to get a forward without using any of our younger ones to get him. It's a good move for Florida who is trying to solidify their playoff position. It makes no sense for the Preds unless there is another deal in the works. In fact, on it's own, I'd argue this move weakens the Preds for the playoffs.

Smitty will go down with the other grinders that gave it all for this team and I will miss his effort, though admittedly it has been a little lacking of late. Good luck to him.

I'm trying to understand the fascination with Derek Roy. He's only 5'9", his face-off percentage is lower than Smithson, he doesn't have many points...C'mon, Mr. Poile you can do better than that.

Can't see Howson trading him to a division rival (your most hated/envied rival really) and then have to watch him come in to your bldg for the next 7 yrs.

Comparable to Preds dealing Suter to Wings this weekend..

A 60/70 point guy vs a 13 point guy. Geeze I don't know why we would want him....

Our team has a plethora of Smithson types.

You still need to look at the past 1 1/2 years though. Its not as cut and dry as 'he is a 60/70 pt guy'. He' was' one 2 years ago but has been riddled with injuries. Roy wouldnt be top 5 in points on the Preds. He'd fit right in with the low 30's and has that potential to get back to the 60 point total but its not a slam dunk. Kinda like Hemsky was/is. Potential is great and all but we need a guy who IS putting up 60/70 points the past season or on pace this year.

Roy is fine for the right price but it should NEVER include Smith or Wilson in the equation.

just what the Preds need, another 2 or 3rd line player.....

IMO dealing Smithson was one of our best moves....and is getting traded for a 6th round pick one step above getting waived?

I agree, Wilson and Smith are our future!!! Roy is fine but DP needs to find a bigger punishing center.

None more punishing than D. Brown. That trade would would move us up a notch or two in the SC favorite competetion. It is unknown if he is available, comes and goes.

Go Preds!

Let's go claim Brian Rolston off waivers, maybe he has a little left in the tank for a playoff run since he should be fresh after scoring only 4g and 5a in 49 games for the Islanders which is the reason he got placed on waivers in the first place.

50/50 means he might become a Pred and then again, he might not become a Pred. I think he could say that about 28 other teams in the league. Way to pin that one down LeBrun.
