yea Im fine with that. A lousy finish after how we started, wouldn't look good.
- JoeRussomanno

It would also be the second season in a row in which a Lava coach team has started the season on fire, and disappointingly tapered off down the stretch. There's a lot of other circumstances to each season, of course, and this one's not done yet.

Same here. I've questioned a few of Lava's decisions, but not as much as some of the parts he's had to deal with due to injury and the presence of Shelley, to be honest.

Let him groom these kids, they've hit a wall (looking at Matt Read). Still in the playoff hunt. They're just doing the season backwards. I expected a slow start due to all the new faces. Now that the goalie and D are doing better, the onus is on the forwards (and the coach with his lines) to find the back of the net.

Enjoyed Shelley's presence in yesterday's game.

Speaking as a guy who has a Pronger sweater on his wall, would it help the team to give someone the "C"? I get the negatives of that move, but it could also help them with the mentality of collectively pulling up their shoes.

The shelf life for coaches is very short. It seems to me that guys are tuning him out at this point. And the lack of in game adjustments are telling.

Of course there is nothing a coach can do to prevent soft goals, so that has to be taken into account.

- PLindbergh31

Of course, if the team (i.e., owner and/or GM) backs the coach and says to the players,"This is your coach, deal with it," (with sunglasses on), then it's on the players to perform.

The team in general has alot of new players so if they are tuning the coach out thats pretty odd. I think the real issue is your playing alot of rookies and the veterans you have on this team havent stepped up. Add all that with questionable goaltending all year and I think the Flyers have done a nice job. The coach can only do so much before the players have to be held accountable.

The big issue with the Flyers is the rookies have hit a wall and now with the new defenseman on board their going to need a couple weeks to adjust.

I haven't seen or heard why Rinaldo was scratched last night. I hope it wasn't because Shelley's father was in Edmonton, until I hear a legit reason why I'm going to assume that is the case.

He did his job and took early punches that could have (should have?) resulted in a Carcillo-like 10-minute PP chance. Just think Rinaldo should have been the guy since he brings more hockey skills to the table.

I'd probably wait until next season, but assuming Pronger's done for good the C will have to be given to somebody else at some point.

Just curious guys. Would you trade Braydon Coburn and Matt Read for Dustin Brown and a second? Use the approximate two million in space that opens up next year to keep Matty Carle.

Yes it is. Next 20 games and playoffs will be interesting. And will likely determine Laviolette's fate.

also a team that started the season with chris pronger, and then lost him. they are a solid, but clearly not elite, team with pronger out of the lineup. those kind of teams are inconsistent. that's the way i see it at least

I dont think it would change a thing... stitching a "C" on a guys left shoulder doesnt give him super powers or change the dynamic of anything.

Bryz...WIP has become Brzy talk
- nastyflyergirl

Oh ok Well yea they are right, he's the highest paid goalie ever that gave up two goals last night and didn't score any himself on a terrible team with a back up goale, how dare he! And we gave up Richie and Carter who are having great seasons this year even though all we needed to sign Bryz was the 3 mill in cap space we gained by trading Versteeg. Well since we don't have those other two and we falsely claim he's the reason they were dealt we might as well just trash him too. I mean Ike Reese he loves to kill athletes especially Cole Hamels (World Series MVp) and now Bryzgalov when through his career as a hall of fame 3rd string linebacker and and average special teams player he gained so much insight into sports. Besides he'll also tell you Vick is the best QB in the division wait eff that he should mvp of the league. But guys like Bryz and Cole Hamels are terrible.

And Barkann he's a master at analyzing sports VIA daily news headlines, nuff Said!

Well Couturier didn't play last night due to a LBI. There wasn't a reason given to why Rinaldo didn't play. So until I hear a reason why, I'm going to use logic to figure out why. They said during the broadcast Shelley's Father was in attendance, so it's jumping to conclusion for me to assume that's why Shelley played?

I know the second goal is one people are saying he should have had, etc but I gotta tell you, if I ever have the puck in that area with that much time and space (the one defender stepped aside to cover the player to the left of Bryz as well as let him see the puck I suppose) I expect to score there. I didn't think it was soft to be honest.

I would say that's a small leap, yes. I'm not a fan of having an enforcer (nor the cap hit, and frankly I dislike his speed), but the guy brings enough hockey skill as a veteran presence to play small minutes on the fourth line. If he's in the lineup, it's a sign our top forwards have to step up and carry the play (and extra minutes).

It's a shot that could have been stopped, but it wasn't one I would label a soft goal. Bryzgalov played well last night. His best game in a while. He was the Flyers best player last night, and was by no means the reason they lost the game. Anyone blaming him, either 1. has an agenda, or 2. is clueless.

It's the NHL any forward worth his salt that has that much time to pick a spot and make the goalie guess is going to score 8 times out of 10 there, so no it wasn't a soft goal. It came off a boneheaded play which involved the team's highest paid player.
