Just curious guys. Would you trade Braydon Coburn and Matt Read for Dustin Brown and a second? Use the approximate two million in space that opens up next year to keep Matty Carle.
- Flyers1218

No.

Flyers already have 10 or 11 top-9 forwards, and just spent a good chunk of this year's draft picks to revamp the defense.

Love Dustin Brown, but I don't see the fit/need.

Perhaps, but do their charisma scores carry the weight that Pronger's does. Pronger's bonus is sorely missing.

Sorry. I was on a role-playing game site today too, so cross-over is to be expected.

It's possible, although I do feel that Laviolette doesn't need the buffer as much as Hitchcock did.

Quiet vs. vocal need not have anything to do with it. One thing about Richards that is tough to deny -- because there was so much smoke that there had to be some fire there -- is that there were cliques on the Flyers' teams he captained. At bare minimum, he did not do enough to bridge those gaps. At worst, he was a guilty party in creating the cliques in the first place.

I have no idea what's going on in LA. Just passing along something I've heard, that there is not a united leadership group in the Kings dressing room and some have gravitated to the guy with the C and others have gravitated toward Richards.

- bmeltzer

Not that I know the inner sanctums.. but this Flyers group seems like its a much closer group of guys than that of the past few years (and some of the comments made by players would also suggest that). Richards goes to LA and they start having rumored locker room issues. Sometimes where there is some there is an inferno.

On another note.. its crazy how such a stacked group of forwards are on the leagues worst offensive team.

Kopitar, Carter, Richards, Williams, Brown, Gagne, Penner hell even Stoll can chip in.

I don't like it either. I noticed Briere hasn't scored since his hat trick against Ottawa in early January. Yes he's a playoff performer I get that but it's not that he hasn't been scoring but he's a hindrance defensively too. (See second goal last night.) Can't have the highest paid player taking a 1/4 of the season off and expect to win a lot. If he's hurt then LTIR him until the playoffs and use the relief to make another move before the deadline.

Also I think the moves on D are gonna take a couple more weeks until we get full efficiency due to everyone familiarizing themselves.

- JoeRussomanno

Even though the Flyers are scoring a bunch, it's been pretty much been all Giroux, Hartnell, and Simmonds. With a little Jagr and Talbot mixed in. Read, Couturier, Briere, Voracek, have really been slumping lately.

Nope. Don't trade a guy like Read, with his cap hit, unless you're getting something exceptional.

Brown's a good player, and I'd be interested in adding him, but the Flyers do have a couple of streaky, physical scoring line wingers already.

How can you use a secondary scorer to lower a primary scorers price tag? This guys not even making sense.
- jesustouchedme

Just a guess is becuase we need a defensive checking forward for the PK more then we need a primary scorer. IMO. Brown fits our needs more at more then half the cap hit, and probally half the asking cost.

There's also a $4.7mm difference in cap hits.

That's my concern: if Lava is removed, is there even a lateral move to make at that position?
- BulliesPhan87

As Jsaq mentioned Carlyle is a guy who doesn't have a job now. He won a Cup in Anaheim.

We go through this every year with Briere. He quietly puts up 60 regular season points per season, then blows up in the playoffs and is forgiven for a perceived lackluster 82 games.

Hopefully the trend continues this postseason, because he's on pace for less than 20 goals and 50 points this year.

- bradleyc4

I just expected a lot more out of him this year. After his remarks on the big trades in the summer talking about how the team expects the best etc. I thought he would respond with a big season and he hasn't. If this team struggles to get in the p/o's (lord I hope not but the rate they are going...) He has to have a big Bullseye on his back imo. Highest paid guy on the team can't just show up two months out of the season.

I'm not ready to fire the guy. All the new faces and we're still in the hunt. If they go into a serious tailspin from here on out, maybe ok. But I think Lavy has earned at least one more year here.

At this current pase, making the playoffs is not a given.. Less then 500 hockey will not get us there, and Briere needs to step it up...

I'm not ready to make a coaching change just yet, but if I'm Holmgren I have my options researched (as you said, Carlyle). It's a shame, I like Lava, but I do wonder if his efficacy has run its course.

Very good point. I like Dustin Brown and have wanted to the Flyers to add him, but you make good points. Just don't want them to get Nash. It could really ruin this team.

Oh okay. I didnt think Richards was much of a vocal leader in the locker room but more of a player who lead by example on the ice. Just curious. Thought maybe he changed his ability to lead by being a little more vocal then when he was in Philly. One of those you learn by your mistakes.

I wouldn't pull the plug now. I would see how the team finished the season and how they do in the playoffs. If they continue to sink like a stone, and get eliminated in the first round you have to re-evaluate.

Ike just had to ask if they traded or signed him as a FA and Barkan said they signed him as a free agent. No picks went to get him. Ummmmm not accurate Mike. and he works at Comcast and covers this poop all day long?

The shelf life for coaches is very short. It seems to me that guys are tuning him out at this point. And the lack of in game adjustments are telling.

Of course there is nothing a coach can do to prevent soft goals, so that has to be taken into account.

Funny... I thought Bryz played very well, but was (frank)ed by that poopty excuse of a team effort in front of him. He had his own D-men and forwards collapsing right in front of him.. but he was finding pucks and attempting to control or steer rebounds.. The 2nd goal is one you would like to save, but it is certainly a shooters advantage. Golden gift to Ebrle (only because of his hard work against the much bigger Coburn) who has a hell of a release.

That was probably one of the worst performances by the team that I have seen in a long time. They didnt want it.

Same here. I've questioned a few of Lava's decisions, but not as much as some of the parts he's had to deal with due to injury and the presence of Shelley, to be honest.

Let him groom these kids, they've hit a wall (looking at Matt Read). Still in the playoff hunt. They're just doing the season backwards. I expected a slow start due to all the new faces. Now that the goalie and D are doing better, the onus is on the forwards (and the coach with his lines) to find the back of the net.
