He's worth more than that. Nothing guaranteed about the picks...he's guaranteed.

I wouldn't call Schneider a guarantee at this point. He's played pretty much one season of games on one of the best teams in the league. And don't forget those first 10 games he played he looked pretty bad. He hasn't really had a chance to prove he can be a top, full time goalie.

I heard Dreger/Bob Mac say a couple times that MG wants a first/good prospect and a top 4 D/top 6 F.
- Nucker101

If Gillis could do that at the deadline I would say it's a no brainer. I don't think he'll be able to get all that.

The thing I don't get is who will be our backup? Dwayne rollison would be cheap and could come back from Tampa in a trade.

Yes. I think he'll be a hell of a goalie but I'm just saying that's what other GMs would say. He's played less than 60 NHL games and Canucks fans are already saying he's going to win a Vezina. Like I said, he's a great goalie but he just hasn't had a chance to prove he can do it consistently. It's not a bad thing or a knock on him.

I'd agree except he's played in some of the hardest buildings and either won, or showed that he can win. That's the mark of a great goalie, it's one thing to win at home where you have the last change/home crowd in your favor, it's a whole other thing to win in a hostile building like Boston/Chicago/Detroit/NYR etc.

You should quit your full time job of being a complete moron... and go play center on the first line for the leafs.

YES.. its that easy.

Scheider looks like he could be a good starter, but it's definitely not a guarantee. The number of goalies who have had a good season as starters and then crashed to earth is long. The number of goalies who have played good for stretches as backups on good teams and been awful is too long to list.

Ya I think he's great, like I said. Just trying to say what other GMs would say. He plays on the best team in the NHL which also helps him out. Lots of examples in NHL history of goalies starting their careers out with a bang then not panning out. Look at the team that wants Schneider, Columbus and Mason.

Mason never developed properly, he was a complete rookie thrown into a situation where nobody had a book on him yet, and frankly the Blue Jackets were a much better team his rookie year. Schneider's had the benefit of being in the AHL for 3 years and being the starter on the Moose and taking them to the Calder Cup Finals. He's ready to be a number #1 starter. If GMs really believed he's not capable of being a #1, why do we keep hearing the same teams who need a good #1 goalie making offers for him?

I'm not saying he's not ready. I was simply saying he's not a "guarantee." No player really is. He's a young goalie who looks like he's going to be pretty darn good, of course teams want him. I just don't think he's going to fetch a 1st round pick, a top prospect and a top 4 d-man.
There are plenty of goalies, other than Mason, that have looked like they were going to be great then ended up average or worse.

Look at Schneider's track record than come talk to me. He's been highly touted since he was 15. First round pick, NCAA dominated, AHL dominated, NHL consistently dominating over the last 40 starts. He's the real deal. How many goalies start off with their first two years at an average of .928 save %. He's been developed the right way.

He's big, athletic, extremely quick and level headed. I see him as a sure fire all star franchise goalie. Let's see what other GMs think. No doubt their scouts are saying the same things.

If Gillis don't trade Schneider before July1st, he may be getting these picks anyways....because he can't match an offer sheet.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that was the post that was the "final straw" over many posts.

People like to spit their mouths off and then use the one individual post that the ref used to ban them in order to play the victim.

Well, he probably won't fetch ALL of that, but we WILL get back at least a top 4 d-man and one of top prospect or a 1st. Good goalies who've shown that they can win in all levels are very hard to come by. Remember that the scouts have always projected Cory to be a top-end #1 goalie, he's learned his craft with Rollie Mendelson who's considered to be one of, if not the best goalie coaches around and played behind Luongo who's one of the best regular season goalies. That's going to count for a lot with GMs, especially when you factor in that during Luongo's injury, he played a 9 game in a row stretch where he didn't lose in regulation against some very good teams, and played good enough that AV stuck Luongo on the bench to ride Schneider on his hot streak.

Most NHL goalies are goalies who have shown they can win at all levels they've played, otherwise they wouldn't make it to the NHL. I agree with most of what you're saying, it's just that with less than 60 NHL games played and being on the best team in the league doesn't make him a guarantee. It's just the way it is. If he could fetch all that then I think Gillis would be dumb to wait until the draft. Why not improve the team right now? The Canucks are looking poised for another good run, a top 4 dman and a another piece would put them over the top.

I'll give you Carey, but again, like Mason, wasn't fully developed when they put him in and on a bad team (like Washington was during the late 90's) his confidence got shot badly. Also, he played in a conference with New Jersey/Philly/Boston who were all big teams and during the dead puck era where goalies were ran regularily.
