Not sure how a mid 1st round pick is gonna make a difference if you finish 8th or 9th in the East? So you pick 14th instead of 15th?
1st pick at that spot probably will not be jumping into the lineup next year and be an impact player
Flyers were 7th Seed and the Habs were the 8th seed 2 playoffs ago - they were the Eastern finalists - just get in - anything can happen - MTL1
agree with all this, that hab run was someting else. |

That's a fair argument. But on the other hand, what's Montreal done since? I don't want a team that might pull a miracle run. I'd rather see a team that does it in the regular season along with the playoffs...a lot easier said than done, I know. |

Its not that great - and the better ones will be signed long before they get to UFA day on July 1 - MTL1

Are you insane?
I agree that most will be locked up before 2013 UFA season (depending on what the new CBA looks like), but to say it's not looking that great right now is ridiculous.
You could build an all-star team out of that group. |

Well they followed that up by a 7 game series against eventual cup champs the Bruins last year - this year has just been a mess for the obvious and not so obvious reasons - they will be back next year - you have to remember its a business now - these owners need the playoff gate revenues - cap teams cant afford to just spend to the cap every year and not make it in |

Lost to Boston in overtime of game 7 last year. Montreal misses the playoffs once every 10 years anyway. |

sounds good, as long as we don't lose the chemistry - brooaar
Well, chemistry was the wrong word, but I think the team is on a certain track and I wouldnt want to blow it up right now. They play for each other and overall I'm fairly happy with where the team is going. This is not a Columbus situation, if they do aquire players, I'd want them to fit into the plan and not move backwards just to try to squeak into the playoffs. They're in a funk right now, but to judge the entire team and season based on a bad stretch would be ridiculous. Just as ridiculous as people judging them for having a stretch of good games at the end of last year. |

(frank) playoffs
its another year of bullpoop. false hope, except at least this year it wasn't given to us all the way up into the last game. at least now we know.
!@#$!@#$!@$!@$!@#$@#$
Someone should do a study. Are Leaf fans more likely to become alcoholics than a Wings or Bruins fan. Everytime its HNIC Saturday night, and they crap the bed (which is all the time) I ended up getting pooptered cause I get mad and pound whiskey
When the D or Goaltending is ON, the offense is (frank)ing sucking balls. When the offense rolls, well guess what? a miracle 20 giveaways and a poopty G performance. |

Most of those guys are already early to mid 30s and when the time comes for July 2013 they will be even older - cant sign them to 5/6 year contracts
Jordan Staal and Edler are the 2 young guys off of that list that you can sign for 5/6 years and expect their output to last the length of the contract - but they will be signed way before they get to July 1 2013 |

Fair enough, they almost beat the cup champs last year. If that's what the goal of a team is then all the power to them. We shall agree to disagree. |

CROSBY
IGINLA
PERRY
FISHER
HARTNELL
I bet you they all re-sign. They all always do... - twiztedmike
Ahhhh? And you forgot:
J Staal
Getzlaf
Edler
Horton
Zajac
Quick
Lupul
Roy
Lehtonen
Weiss
Clowe
Burrows
Howard
Enstrom
ALL of which are under 30!
2014's UFA list looks pretty solid too.
Between these two years a few teams around the NHL will undergo QUICK rebuilds. |

I'd take a cup win over a great playoff run...
The proof is in the stats, cinderella teams have very rarely actually won the cup, they may get close, but in the end, the better team will win 99% of the time when it counts. |
