Does Blum really help us though? - saskoil21
Yes, maybe, no. Not sure about any immediate impact. Oilers have a surplus of defenseman and on roster once Peckham returns. Peckham and Barker is on the out now. They are good for depth defenseman. If the Oilers trade Omark, it also may put tough pressure on lack of RW depth for the organization, and with that...it still maybe best interest for Oilers to draft a forward in the summer and trade for a defenseman or FA market. |

I like Omark but Blum fills a need somewhat.

I agree... Nashville might be desperate enough to give a deal like this a shot. |

Yeah, for 40-something games last season, and 20-something the season before that. Who are you? Hemsky's agent? |

Too early to make that judgement... Omark was not given a fair shake and what has Blum proved? (frank)ing Gags is just starting to come around and thats mostly cause he plays with hall and eberle... |

Problem with Omark is he has to have a spot next year, if you re-sign Hemsky is there one? Omark isn't clearing waivers. |

If NSH is desperate, they are probably looking for immediate scoring help and not sure does Omark can really help them or prove to them right away as he is currently on that trial run with Oilers...unless it's ok with NSH to simply do depth move to fill what they may have gave up for Gill, otherwise NSH would want to snag a roster player for the playoff run and again to show some backbone to Suter and Weber they are serious contenders in the NHL. |

And the years before that. I'm just someone who thinks he's a good player, and not worth trading for nothing. |

I'd say Omark is a plan H for NSH. The guy on Gregor's show said they need a two-way player that scores goals. Omark is the complete opposite of that. |

He's playing right now, of course he can. I don't pay Smyth that much, who would? |

How can you ignore Hemsky's recent history of injuries? You have to factor this in. |

You won't have Omark anyway because he'll be picked up off of waivers. Ideally they find an upgrade on Ryan Jones for the third line. Someone with some sand paper and when/if Hemmer goes down you have a replacement.
If Hemsky re-signs the only way Omark is an Oiler next year is if they play him this year and he plays at .75PPG and nothing less. Might sound unfair, but the guy is going to bleed around .5GPG against. |

Then Hemsky would be plan C or D on their wish list. |

Maybe trade Ryan Jones+ for RW and draft a highly touted forward and cross fingers Hemsky stays healthy. Maybe have to tie the fingers together for Hemsky's health. |

If Hemsky could have stayed healthy the past couple of seasons, he could have easily gotten upwards of $7M/yr. I say sign him. |
|
|
|
I am a Hemsky fan but no way would I give him 5 million a year even if it was for only 1 year. Even though early on in his contract it looked like a good deal for us the last couple of years with his injuries I would say he should get no more then 4 million on a 1 year contract.
If I was Tambo I would offer this:
1 Year at $4 million
2 Year at $3 million
and if he really wants to stay in Edmonton for a long time I would offer this:
5 year $2.5 million base
$1 million bonus for playing 70+ games
$1 million bonus for getting 65+ points
$1.5 million bonus for getting 85+ points (If he can live up to Jagr's talk)
limited NMC( can pick x amount of teams he would be traded to)
I am not sure how failed bonuses count towards the cap but if he didn't make them and they still counted towards the cap then scrap the last idea.
