I am not shocked about the dollars to be honest. It's the fact that he is even thinking about a 2 year deal.

It was talked before if you are Hemsky and you have the injury history you have, what is better;

5 years at 4mil
or
2 years at 6mil

That's a difference of 8mil, which you'd think over 3 years you'd be able to make it up, but what happens when you continue to have this injuries for the next two years? You might not make that 8mil over 3 years.

I will gain a lot of respect if Hemsky signs a two year deal with us.

It must be true that he likes Edmonton though. Because I think he could get a lot more if he went UFA. Some dumbass team would give him 5.5-6 for 4+ years, even with his reduced production and injury history.

5mil is a bit steep. Id give hemsky term for 4mil. Now EDM can deal Omark for Franson or Aulie. Or maybe PRV is deal for a Dman now.

GF is from here, so that has to help. And I agree 100%.

What about Hemsky's past 5 years makes them think he is worth 5M per season with the amount of young talent on this team.

He has injuries, his inconsistent play, only has 20+ goals twice.

He does have some very nice assist seasons I will give them that.

- JVince117

It's more the past 3 seasons. Past five seasons include 71 and 66 point seasons, and two injury shortened seasons playing at PPGish pace. If he had kept up 60-70 points a season, that's easy 5m money. I agree though, the last 3 have dampened his value.

Let's say Hemsky resigns...what happens to Omark? What would you think the Oilers do with their 1st round pick? Think big Oilers fans...

I think the biggest reason the Oilers are more interested in signing Hemsky is that the big deal they wanted just isn't there. Hemsky is worth more here than elsewhere.
- Maxbone

Bingo.
If you give up assets, there's the risk he continues this terrible year.
For you guys, no risk, just high reward that he returns to 2009. Good decision.

Im just saying, for over a year I have been reading in here about how awesome Hemsky is, and how he is so valuable in a trade, with no regard to his injury history. Yet when it comes time to pay him, suddenly his injury history is very relevant.
- Leafs43

I think he's valuable short-term (For a team going to the playoffs this year) so that will up his value... That's the only reason I think we'll see some potential offers being thrown our way...

This is what I dont understand about some fans. All I ever hear from EDM fans is that Hemsky is a PPG player, but when it comes time to pay him, he is only worth 4 mil? Doesnt make sense.

i just chalk it up to some kind of bi-polar disorder or too much estrogen floating around his system causing him to act like a woman and change his mind every 5 minutes. Like a while back renney and tambellini sucked and were terrible and needed to go. and then recently renney isnt a bad coach and tambs is the most patient person. its a roller coaster ride in here for sure

Doubtful, everything suggest he is worse than Schremp was.

Unless 33 points in the SEL is going to haunt people

Me? I haven't thought Hemsky was worth the money he was making for 2-3 years now... And I believe anyone on this board could replicate what Tambs has done. It's not hard to suck, and pick obvious draft choices. I have been annoyed with some of the choices Renney has made in the past, but I'll cut him some slack.

People compare him and Schremp, because they're both big on Youtube... Omark has demonstrated some sick moves out there, and he's productive. He also has the heart of a (frank)ing lion.

I don't think you'll have to worry too much, unless he's like any ex-leaf and always scores at the ACC...

You know what else he has in common?

He doesn't (frank)ing listen to his coaches when they tell him to work on something.

I don't understand how Burke can justify dealing him unless he is getting a better player back.

If we can get a return like we did for Beauchemin, I would trade him. Only because there are rumors that he wants 5+ million a season.
