He's pretty poor defensively though; not sure if he'll ever really be more than a #4 guy. Love his shot though; wish he played on the 1st PP unit instead of Phaneuf but that's never going to happen.

I find his defence has improved a lot this season.. Give him a coach that can actualy teach defence and he will improve that much more

Recently he has been MUCH better than Phaneuf, Liles and Gardiner defensively. Either way all our defencemen make tons of bad mistakes including Franson

Give this team a proper defensive system (and supporting forwards) and a good goalie and these defensemen would look a lot better than they do right now. This has been a problem with the Leafs for a while.

Franson: 58 shots, 28 missed shots (67.4% of his shots hit the net)

I thought Franson would have the edge by a bit but I thought it'd be close. Phaneuf just shoots the puck a hell of a lot more often so you see him miss a lot more as a result.
