I wouldn't consider moving Briere at all. I don't even know why this is a thought. He makes his money in the playoffs. He has yet to disappoint in this area. If everyone played like he did in the playoffs, we'd have a cup every year. No if's and's or but's, there is no reason to move Briere right now.

Here comes the "But" though, right?

- roenick97

Why dont you finish the but. Think about what we need to do on defense and the raises JVR, Coburn, and Voracek are/will be getting, and think about how much money we will have to resign/replace/upgrade Jagr, Carle, Kubina, Grossman, Harry Z, and MAB.

Something has to give, and its not Pronger's LTIR'd contract. Would you rather Trade JVR inthe offseason for Schenn or Johnson to try and fix the problem? Trade our youth, to fix defense, or trade/Cut Briere's 6.5 million when Schenn, Couturier, Giroux, and Talbot are all capable centers?

I dont know if the Flyers are willing to let their best playoff performer go that easy. I know his numbers are not what they should be this year (regular season) but he is clutch come playoff time.

IF Voracek is seeking $4M per year I would let him walk. I was thinking he would get something close to $3M per year.

i dunno
i just have a feeling jake is going to continue to develop and improve. id be wary about giving up on him if its just over a mil, esp with the cap rising

Not sure if anyone has menioned this yet, but....

The Flyers are 0-2 with a tie in their last three trips to Edmonton, having not won there since March 19, 2001.

almost 11 years since the Flyers won a game in Edmonton.

Thats a hefty raise for Voracek. We have to wait and see if the cap does go up. IMO, he isnt worth $4M per year this summer. I would be willing to give him a raise and pay him $3M.

You can go 10% over the cap in the summer.
- bodiva88

True, but then you have to be a cap till start of season.

Voracek will probably be looking around 3.5-4 million. Closer to the 4 mark imo.

He's valuable but I dont know if the Flyers can dish out that kind of money when they need it for the D.

Even if Jagr leaves I think one more top 9 forward will have to go. I dont want to make the D core weaker than it already is.

More like $3-3.5 million for Jake

Easy. You get 10% over... so about 6.4 million over the current cap right now... First day of the NHL season either Schenn or Couturier are assigned to the minors, as they are not subject to waivers, and day 1 you ltir pronger... boom cap complient and you bring Schenn or couturier back... they dont even pack thier bags...

I think offering him a raise at $3M should be able to keep him. Unfortunately, the cap comes into play and the Flyers are in no position to overpay for him. Flyers would likely trade him before just losing him.
