Why dont you like Riberio ?
- mrpaulish

I'd like to get Ott too. Dallas is rather nasty to play against, and the Hawks could use a bit more sandpaper.

Getz has one of the lowest if not the lowest cap number of the IMPACT players mentioned above at 5.325. He has another year left, which is good but it would take a ton to get him. But oh could that payoff big time.
- yobwoc03

I thought Getzlaf at first, too, but if I'm Anaheim, and I'm putting Getzlaf on the market, first call should be Toronto. Burke would SERIOUSLY overpay for him, plus he's in the other conference.

That's why I'm leaning towards Kopitar because it would free up capspace for LA to trade for Nash. Could we possibly see a monster three-way deal??

K'mon Getzlaf really? I highly doubt ANA gives up their captain and #1 center unless we throw a major package. Not going to happen.
I could see Ribero, Stasny, Grabo, but not Getzlaf.

Here's what I can come up with based on top 2Cs who might be available on teams who might be willing to trade with us:

Getz, Bryan Little, Grabo, Antropov , Zajac, Plekanec, maaaaybe Weiss(NMC), Ribiero, Brassard?, Stastny, maybe Stajan, Roy and that's really it.

Said one NHL GM to me today, ```Colorado could be quite busy over the next week.'' Trade 1 is dow

Maybe it is Stasny and OBrien ...

Adrian Dater brought up on twitter that if the Avs were to trade Stastny they would have to bring in equal salary to stay over the cap floor..

I don't see them trading him and doing that, why bring in lesser talent but for the same cap hit?

Ales Hemsky....UFA, reasonable cap hit, from a team that's out of it. For picks/prospects.

It does make them available for salary dumps, which some teams might need to do. It might cost a pretty penny though.

If thats true then count Stasny out.

Well, hopefully Stan hits his homerun and we can get ready for an exciting long playoff run.

LeBrun has both Ribiero and Ott on the block. I definitely think that with Dallas slowly fading out of the playoff picture that they might start selling. What would need to be going the other way for this to happen? Considering that asked for Saad for Grossman...

I would be really surprised if we took a guy that has an annual cap hit of more then 4m. I just don't see it happening during mid season.

Yea , I couldnt believe it . in a 1-0 game he gets an un sportsman like penalty , the ref gave him like 3 chances to skate away too. What a punk.

I would be too, which leaves a really small pool of candidates. Of course JJ's blog does say it would be a big financial move as well as talent wise.

What we know.

1. It's a rumor. Should be stressed in fact.

2. The player is a number 2 center that could play number 1 on certain unfortunate teams around the league.

3. The player has a cap hit going into next year.

4. By way of inductive method, the player must be from a non contending team, as no contender in their right mind does a move like this now, they wait until the offseason.

5. JJ seems to like the rumor, which points to the idea that he likes the player. Ie, it's not Sam Gagner.

6. Again by way of induction, the team proposing the trade must have decent to strong center depth, because few to no teams can trade away something as strong as JJ is mentioning, without it being replaced - likely by something young.

The only player that makes sense to me is Paul Stastny. That said, Colorado is only 4 points back of 8th so they aren't going to give him away; not for picks and prospects alone. A deal HAS to include Stalberg (sadly for me, since he is one of my favorite Hawks), likely has to include Frolik for finacial reasons. Picks and prospects to be included to even out the status of Stastny vs. Stalberg. Colorado needs top six winger help badly so they'll start their offer with Saad.

In my dream universe, there is a way we get TJ Galiardi back too....

Not even sure I want this trade to happen.

Brillaint break down. It seems like Gravo from Toronto could be had for less than Stasny. I also think Toronto and Buffalo (Roy) are more likely trade partners than a Western conference team

I don't think its Stastny simply because I don't think he checks the boxes JJ says he does or the boxes this team needs.

So much suspense! It would have to be a great deal to take Hayes away from us. Not because of what people think of him but because of what he is and what the Hawks don't have on their roster. They need the big body with good hands and can skate well enough. That's what makes your Pirris more expendable in THIS organization and your Shaw's(pesky, gritty) Krugers(made of heart, great IQ) and Olsens (physical shot blocking) more untouchable. It's not that they are top of the line talents, this team is set in that regard, its that they bring what is missing and so their value in this organization may be higher than in say nashville or phoenix where they need more scorers and playmakers.

- Walky

Very good points. I see it much the same--ok, exactly the same.

Looks like SB is still attempting to get the balance this team dearly needs...without giving up some of the prospects that can chip in. Last two drafts, with quite a mix of size, skill, & grit. Can't argue with that draft strategy at all, but he needs to take care of the present too.

Being from Montreal, I can tell you that PK is immensely popular here. I doubt they would deal him. That said, I'm not so sure i would want him. He has a lot of potential and is a great skater, but he's also already developed a reputation around the league for being a bit dirty. More importantly, for all his flash he makes a ton of mental errors and turnovers on a regular basis...often tries to do more than he's capable of. And word is that he's somewhat stubborn...ignores the coaches advice. He's been a healthy scratch a few times this season.
- SAVOIRFAIRE

Being a young defenseman means he'll have ups and downs, maybe big ones. And he's always been the best at his level, so he's not used to NEEDING coaching. But if he's smart enough to catch on to the fact that in the NHL you can't succeed solely on physical ability, he'll figure it out and be a heck of a defenseman. Sadly, even if Montreal lives with his growing pains, by the time he's figured it out, it'll be payday and he'll go UFA.
