that JJ was referring to in rumor update
- dpard

Pure speculation on our part as fans. Getzlaf seems to meet a lot of the criteria mentionned in JJs blog. We don't know for sure and won't until JJ is able to share.

Oh I see...It just seemed like because Lydman was a Duck...

But feel free to draw your own conclusions.

JJ said "At this point, I can't divulge the big name center the Hawks are said to be discussing this afternoon. When I can, I will.

If the Hawks can make this deal, it would automatically improve their power play and create a fairly big matchup problem for other teams in the playoffs— and provide a nice insurance policy if Jonathan Toews' health issue becomes long-term.

This transaction, if it happens, could wait until the deadline as it would be a fairly major move both on and off the ice (financially). And, although the other club made it known to the Hawks the player was available, the actual intent of the team is not completely clear at this point. But make no mistake, the player involved would improve the Hawks fairly dramatically, even strength and on at least one special team."

Anaheim has not shown their intent (buyers/sellers), Getzlaf has a $5.3 mil cap hit, Getzlaf "improves the Hawks fairly dramatically, even strength and on at least one special team". Trying to add 1 and 1 and not get 3.

Have you heard of big name centers the Hawks have made offers for?

Here's a question for everyone: would you rather, with the team the Hawks have today, that Bowman swing for the home run like a Getzlaf, and possibly miss or take 3 smaller swings and hit two singles, like a Gaustad and an O'Brien?

By the way Al, really liked your idea to try to pry Ott from Dallas. Ott and Bolland on the same line would be awesome (unless you are on the opposing team)!

Don't forget the Hawks are at the Ducks Sunday......could be another reason to wait till the deadline. Anaheim wouldn't want his 1st game to be against them in the Honda Center.

That is the name that makes the most sense out of all the speculation being thrown around here. Either him or Brassard. Getzlaf is probably a pipe dream, he would cost the hawks way too much.
- ccbettcher

Even though a few days ago JJ shot down rumors of Ribiero, I think he fits more realistically into the description JJ had. Plays PP and potential 1st/2nd C depending on Toews health. For me Getz its a looonngshot. Swinging a deal for Ribeiro and Ott would be nice.

Only thing I can say with any certainty is the Hawks are pursuing Lydman.

It's Grabovski from the Leafs. I wish it was Connolly, but the Hawks have been talking a great deal with the Leafs. It hinges on how Burke proceeds with Grabo and the trades that might come.

There a few teams that may wait until after the weekend and evalaute their chances then.

Ott was speculation on my part....bit.ly/ydz1B6

But he is the type of player that would make the Hawks tougher to play against and it wouldn't be only lip service.

I wouldn't mind seeing them going after, wait for it.... P.K Subban. I bet that kid would bring some serious attitude and some serious blows to opposing offenses with his body frame. The fact that there are few black NHL Players would possibly the Hawks on the business side with a little diversity in the locker room. I can imagine Montreal would want a boat load, but seeing as that kid plays top defensive line minutes and the kid is only 22 I would let some of our future prospects go. I can imagine Montreal is looking for youth and some potential draft picks with a few good forwards and defense men coming through the draft. Any thoughts as to the Hawks pulling something in this direction and letting some of our farm talent go along with some draft picks as we already stacked ourselves last year and the year before? I cant remember the other kids name we have on defense in the minors that is not... Olsen. I thought we have another kid that should be good.

I do know that P.K. Subban is young and an absolute beast, but I suppose Montreal would deal for the right price. What are your thoughts JJ? Just curious since that kid would really set us up with a big banger on defense.

I wouldn't mind carter, but didn't he have some sort of injury this year that could be a little concern? I would rather go after Roy from the Sabres than him, but too each their own. Any thoughts would be great.

Thanks,

Ryan

Being from Montreal, I can tell you that PK is immensely popular here. I doubt they would deal him. That said, I'm not so sure i would want him. He has a lot of potential and is a great skater, but he's also already developed a reputation around the league for being a bit dirty. More importantly, for all his flash he makes a ton of mental errors and turnovers on a regular basis...often tries to do more than he's capable of. And word is that he's somewhat stubborn...ignores the coaches advice. He's been a healthy scratch a few times this season.

I am 99% certain Hawk emplyees used to patrol and occasionally chime in on the pre-toll Daily Herald board. I think there was one here who eventually got chased away last summer.

Seriously, are you still spewing that silliness that I did or still do work for the Blackhawks? Or were you doing that to somebody else besides me? I do not and never did work for the Blackhawks. Jeez dude do you ever get anything right? I've posted under my real name linked to this one. And you have responded to that site so I know you know my real name. So how come you still insinuate I work/ed for the Blackhawks when you know it is a lie? In any event, please stop.

And NO, I didn't get chased away, I left out of annoyance. The same annoyance I see you are still dealing out to others on your site. So you still want to call people names and junk but then get offended when any of it is returned.

I'm a pretty simple guy, treat people with respect and then demand respect in return or talk smack and accept getting it back in return. You seem to still want to live in that little double standard world where you can dish it but refuse to take it. Sorry, didn't want any part of that so I left. And in my short stop by I see it hasn't changed any...

And btw, did you ever apologize for calling me delusional? You know for saying Salak would sign a one way contract but for something like 600K and not the greater than 1.3M you were spewing?

Interesting... Maybe he is a little immature and needs a fresh start, plus quennville used to be a defense man so I am sure he, plus Keith and seabs could help this kid on his issues. Besides, we need someone like this anyways, look who we signed in the offseason? Carbomb, sure it didn't turn out the way we wanted it to, but he did make a bit of a difference when he did play. I would take a chance on Subban at his age because he is still young enough to possibly be able to change if handled the right way. Montreal isn't doing well anyways, and maybe their coach isn't handling Subban the right way. Plus, being in Canada I would have to think would be tough on a Black Nhl player. Look who montreal traded Halak for? I live in Stl. And they got a great all around center in lars so I think the Hawks if they wanted a tough guy/ douche bagger they could get him considering the farm is deep with young up and coming kids. Stl is mainly stacked at Goalie in the farm system. Just a thought. I would just like to see his attitude and ignorance brought to Chicago which could be just the recipe the hawks could use. I bet he is better than we have on our third line and you can throw him around to the other two defense lines to keep teams on edge worried they are going to get knocked the @#@$ out.

No way is it Getzlaf, as per Jaeckel's Twitter post, it refers to a good 2nd line center. Leds credence to the Grab and Roy possibilties, with my bet on the former.

Didn't he say a very good "2nd line center"? Getzlaf is a bonafide 1st line center.

Thats why Mike Richards is not a bad guess. Kopitar is the one there yet Mike is clearly good enough to be a one in most places.
