Not a snowball's chance they move Kruger for Grabovski.
If it is Chicago offering what's rumoured for Grabo (which I don't believe), it will be Pirri and the 2nd rounder. And Bowman will tell Brian Burke - 'I'm just renting because like you, I don't plan to pay Grabovski $5M per yr on a new contract'.
And Pirri isn't that appealing to Burke because he has a small guy himself like Nazem Khadri who he drafted 7th overall and the brass don't like very much.
Now if it was Grabovski and Khadri in the package, the Hawks might be inclined to throw in the 1st plus Pirri, Saad or Morin and maybe something else. With the proper coaching and attitude, Khadri could easily be as good as Sam Gagner. But he's no help this year. - RickJ
Burke likes skilled guys in his top 6.
Someone would have to replace Grabovski.
Pirri does have connection to Jerry D'Amigo on the Marlies. They played on a line at RPI before they decided to play pro hockey instead of learning engineering.
If it was Pirri and a 2nd, Burke would try and get the 1st I'm sure.
Don't forget that Nashville is looking for a top 6 player as well. Preferably centre.
Carter, Hemsky just about does it for top 6 players that are 100% available.
Nash is on his own.
There is lesser top 6 guys like Andrei Kostitsyn or David Jones. But really I think they are 3rd liners on a contender.
If Grabovski became available and both Chicago and Nashville were looking at him, the price would be a maximum.
This of course, is what I hope for if Gabovski can't be resigned for less than 5.5.

Like I said, I don't think it's Chicago because Bowman likely wouldn't give up his 1st round pick for strictly a rental. My guess is he would chase hard any of Weiss, Brooks Laich, Plekanec, Nik Antropov, Bressard, Derek Roy or even Eric Staal (believe it or not) before that.
Brian Burke is in a sticky situation with Grabovski/ |

Does the NHL allow teams a window to work out an extension of a contract for a player they may trade for.....similar to baseball?

Sign and trade you mean? I think so. Let's say Bowman said to Toronto, get Grabovski signed to a 4 year $4.5M contract by Monday without a NMC and I"ll trade you our 1st + +. That would work.
Grabo's agent might not cooperate though. |

That's right. Saad is in the OHL. I knew Morin was playing for Kitchener last year, but I thought he was in the AHL this year. He's too old to be in the OHL. - leafs_wingp
Sorry not Morin I was thinking McNeil. |

In all seriousness?
What would you trade for the rental of Grabovski?
Stories out of Toronto say he's looking for 5.5mil per. After Ruutu's signing a 4.75 mil it isn't far fetched.
If that is the case I think Burke will unload Grabovski.
Chicago and Nashville are the likeliest places for him as a rental. - leafs_wingp
Personally, I have zero interest in Grabo as a rental. I have no interest in rentals that cost more than an AHL backbencher.
But I'm not SB, so who knows... |
