And again that speaks to what seems to be McD's biggest MO......he wants to win a Cup with his name all over it not a prior regime's. So they make a big splash and succeed(this year or next) who do think is gonna be behind it saying they gave Stan the OK to make a big move. - yobwoc03[/quote
I agree....however some people believe he is a hinderance....I don't see it that way.

In all seriousness?
What would you trade for the rental of Grabovski?
Stories out of Toronto say he's looking for 5.5mil per. After Ruutu's signing a 4.75 mil it isn't far fetched.
If that is the case I think Burke will unload Grabovski.
Chicago and Nashville are the likeliest places for him as a rental. - leafs_wingp
Here is the deal though, even without trading any roster players next year if they paid Grabo 5.5 for the next 2 years (assuming the cap doesn't go down) with the money coming off the books the Hawks would have approx 9.7 mil in cap space to sign a 4th line(all 3 players) a 7th D and a backup tender. It could work. |

JJ,
I love all the rumors you keep telling us about, but do you think there is any chance you are being fed a line of you know what from your source just to keep Hawks fans happy? Can't knock Stan and the Hawks if they tried and just couldn't get a deal done. No team is going to let it out that the Hawks were not even in the running for their guy. Just wondering. Everything I have heard (mostly from you) is the Hawks are not going to take on any big salaries beyond this season. Kind of makes me think Stan and the Hawks are really sneaky one way or another. |

plus even more if the cap increases which has been rumored to be around 70mil. I like Grabo......

For sure. I agree, and as much as it would suck to lose Grabovski, he would be dynamite as the 2nd centre in Chicago.
The rumored deal on the table, as reported by Dreger, is a 2nd round pick and a prospect currently playing in the AHL.
No word on the team, but CHI and NSH have been scouting the Leafs for the past 6 or 7 games.
Burke said, through the media, that he would hope to turn the 2nd into a 1st.
So would Chicago give up a player in the AHL and a 1st round pick for a Grabovski rental? No guarantee they can resign Grabovski?
Morin? Saad? Pirri? Shaw?
I don't know if Burke would do it for a lesser prospect. Seems like a lot to me. |

It all depends on what intentions the hawks have......if they plan on signing Grabo to a long term deal.....don't be surprised if it's Kruger.

Morin and Saad are still CHLer's so if its a AHLer you are looking Pirri, Shaw.

Grabovski's defensive game is under appreciated as well. He plays against the other team's top line constantly.
Stalberg has played on his wing before as well.
I would think they would want to resign him.
If I had my choice I would like Saad, but wouldn't complain about any of them. |

That's right. Saad is in the OHL. I knew Morin was playing for Kitchener last year, but I thought he was in the AHL this year. He's too old to be in the OHL. |

If bringing him in makes the Hawks a final 4 team(at least) in the West making the first 22-30, and having a chance to resign him I say it's worth it. |

Chicago is deep at center......if they acquire Grabo or another 2'liner expect one or two to go back in a trade......especially if the player has a couple of more years left or they intend to lock him up for 3 years after this season.....hypothetically.....1(Toews) 2 ( Acquired player) 3 (Bolland) 4(Maybe Mayers again next year) That means there is not a lot room for the following......Kruger, Pirri, Smith, Danault, McNeil, Hayes.....etc.

Bolland has 2 more years after this. So if you could bring in Grabo and resign his as a 2C for a couple years that works if you move Pirri and Smith. Play Freddy on the wing and when Davie's contract is up he slides into 3C and Danault moves to 2C in theory. I still think in the short term it makes sense.

I can't see them moving Hayes, since Jimmy is playing his way onto the team.
Man... how good would J.Hayes look on the Leafs. Here is hoping Brad Ross pans out.
Well if the deal Dreger was referring too was Chicago, then it would likely be Pirri, since Kruger is currently in the NHL. The bonus is that Pirri is from Toronto as well. |

Since they have Jimmy and he's contributing, they'll give Kevin the benefit of the doubt for a longer time. |

I think both are expendable....but I see Kruger as the future 2nd line center and McNeil has the 3rd when Bollands contract is up. I don't see them resigning Bolland, especially since he is injured a lot.......Of course if they acquire a 2 liner it changes things.

Not a snowball's chance they move Kruger for Grabovski.
If it is Chicago offering what's rumoured for Grabo (which I don't believe), it will be Pirri and the 2nd rounder. And Bowman will tell Brian Burke - 'I'm just renting because like you, I don't plan to pay Grabovski $5M per yr on a new contract'.
And Pirri isn't that appealing to Burke because he has a small guy himself like Nazem Khadri who he drafted 7th overall and the brass don't like very much.
Now if it was Grabovski and Khadri in the package, the Hawks might be inclined to throw in the 1st plus Pirri, Saad or Morin and maybe something else. With the proper coaching and attitude, Khadri could easily be as good as Sam Gagner. But he's no help this year. |

Fair enough we are basically in the same boat then, being that if there is a logjam at 2/3C in the pipeline there is no need to keep them all. If a guy can be brought in to bridge the gap until the kids are ready it should be done. |

I don't know why you are so quick to say no on Kruger. If you look back at my comment.....I stated it all depends on whether they are acquiring a rental or someone long term. If it is a player who has 2-3 years left on a contract or they intend on extending the contract of the player they acquire then I would say there is a good chance it could be Kruger.........as an organization they are deep at center....if your three lines are filled for the next three years where are you gonna play him??? That's all I was saying. |
