Hemsky this year has been averaging less than 2 shots on goal per game... hard to get goals when you are the set up man...
- saskoil21

why are we worried about his # of shots if he is a set up man...and as stated earlier in the thread, one season does not a career make. he has a few years previous to show what he can do. do i want him back @ 5mil? no, but keep him @ 4 mil for 2-3 years sounds ok to me. personally i think that not having to be THE GUY will be best for his health.

My point is he does not shoot the puck enough to result in goals that other team fans say he lacks... and its pretty obvious he is not THE GUY anymore... EBERLE, HALL and when playing THE NUGE are the guys...

Smyth gets PP time next year... he is too slow for the kids... the only way he gets top 6 is if we do not resign hemsky and or PVR has another rough start... If Dubey has a good start then yes he has that potential but from what he shown this year the guy can not steal games for us... he is far from starter material... we definitely need a goalie... I wish someone would take khabby at the TDL but if he is injured that pipe dream came and went this last week or so... are there any UFA goalies available this summer?

I would like to use Smytty as mid 6 so he can fill in the spots for injuries, illness, colD streaks...etc. His speed may not be there but he is still a vet player and not having as many minutes will keep him fresh.

I see Dubey plays better when he gets a string of games, but not to many. A string of 3-4 at most and then give the backup a game or two. He has not played a large set of consecutive games, so he needs to build his endurance.

Add to that the fact we should be working on a better Defensive squad this time and then it is working on our goaltending situation.

Hemsky is not work 5 million/season for three years and he should be traded if there is substantial interest. I get as excited by some of the things he does as much as anyone but there are too many reasons not to resign him. In addition to the moodiness/injuries/etc you mention, too many plays die with him at the blue line. He is the turnover king. While his production has improved as of late, he still struggles to get to the tougher areas. The oilers would be much better off if they could get more depth in Defence and goaltending. As everyone knows, predicting NHL defencemen is not an easy thing to do so the more you have in the system, the better you improve your odds. Smid and Petry are prime examples of a success story but look at all the ones management has brought in that have not panned out. Also, Omark will come into the line-up at a cheap salary. This will provide cap room for a one of: a tender, Dmen and signing the kids. The future lies with them, not Hemsky.

Keep Hemsky, As per Edmonton Journal writer...I’d suggest in the range of $5.2 million for a one-year deal, $4.8 million for a two-year deal, $4.5 million for a three-year deal, $4.1 million for a four-year deal, $3.6 million for a five-year deal, with both parties moving forward without a no-movement clause.

Otherwise...trade Hemsky, give Omark the shot he thinks he deserves and draft a forward.

Who gives a fack what other people say about his goal scoring. He is a playmaker...his points come from assists...if he gets 15 goals a year and 50 assists big facking deal...it is still 60+ points.

My point about being THE GUY was that he took a pile of punishment because he was THE GUY and thus he got injuries. Now he doesn't need to be cause there is a full cast of players through our top 6 to carry the burden of the team.

Ya and Hopkins will spend the whole year in junior and isn't good enough to make team canadas junior team. Scouts know what they're talking about he'll be in the NHL next year if we draft him

I honestly dont think he will. But a lot can change in a summer.

“Maybe if he went to a different team it would like a new start. Maybe he gets 100 points. He’s that skilled,” said Jagr, who played with Hemsky on the 2006 Czech Republic Olympic team in Turin, Italy.

The two Czechs grabbing a bite before they face off tomorrow...

100 points??!? Edmonton better resign the man.
