All you Hemsky detractors using the goal argument are aware that goals and assists both count as one point each right? Hemsky is a playmaker, a pass-first player. Just because he isn't a goal scorer, it doesn't mean he's a useless player. - Jack-artist
You are aware that given his injury history and lack of production he isn't worth what he's being paid.
Hemsky has never achieved what most thought was his potential. He has value however that value is not 5 million per season. The Oiler's have some tough decisions to make and offering Hemsky 4-5 million per season on a three year deal wouldn't be a wise decision. They already have bad contracts and don't need another. Now if Hemsky were willing to accept one year at reasonable Monet that would be a different story.
Hopefully, if he is signed by the deadline he is moved for whatever return he can bring. |

You think Hemsky's a terrible investment? Look at all the money the Oilers have thrown at horse poop for the past few years. If they weren't such an inefficient team when it comes to spending money, adding 0.5-1 million extra onto Hemsky's wouldn't be a sliver of an issue. Look at players being paid 4-5 million and tell me how many have produced as much, or are as good.
As far as his potential goes, he's lead the team in scoring and in ppg 5 times since the lockout. Or my mistake, Eberle scored a point more in 20 more games played, so 4 times.
I sure don't get how paying him around 5 mil a year for 2-3 seasons to be a top 6 forward is such a problem. Cam Barker is earning almost half that and he's one tenth the player Hemsky is. |

Potential for next years lines:
Hall Gagner Eberle
Pajaarvi Nuge Hemsky
Eager Horcoff Jones
Petrell Belanger Lander
Extra forwards SMyth Hordichuk - IWatchHockey
Nuge has had no issue with shooting. He is still only 3 goals off the leader with 16 less games played...he is also only 4 assists off the lead with 11 less games played. The kid is a threat with the puck. PRV needs to be more shooter as Hemmer is more passer, but that line is a threat. Obviously the 1st line is a good threat and has a pile of chemistry.
The only player that I am not so sure about where to put is Smytty. I would like to rotate him in and out in the mid 6.
Petry Whitney
Gilbert Smid
____(Sutton or??) Teubert? or ???
Sutton? (7th D man)
- IWatchHockey
So many possibilities and questions. I like Petry and his growth...but does he continue to progress or does he regress. Can Whitney get back to old form? Does Teubert, Marcinin, Gernat, Plante, Fedun, pecks make a surge and make the team? Does the team try a differing experiment? Not sure what I would say here.
Goalies? Give Dubnyk the starting job next year and make Khabby the backup. 60/40 split. |

I am bored and watching the Sens put it to the Capitals! 4-0 so far and Karlsson is sitting with a goal and two assists. What a stud, both the Flames and the Oilers could sure use one of those on the D! |

Smyth gets PP time next year... he is too slow for the kids... the only way he gets top 6 is if we do not resign hemsky and or PVR has another rough start... If Dubey has a good start then yes he has that potential but from what he shown this year the guy can not steal games for us... he is far from starter material... we definitely need a goalie... I wish someone would take khabby at the TDL but if he is injured that pipe dream came and went this last week or so... are there any UFA goalies available this summer? |

I thought Hemsky wants 4-5 years which was the issue? Barker will maybe get to resign here for half of what he is making now... |

Wow you wont give that up. it may be true. the capitals have been playing poorly and i dont think steroids would make that much of a factor as of how bad they have been playing.
i highly doubt ottawa would be a lottery team without karlsson. the kid is amazing. this was not a brutal team as the standings showed last year. goaltending is a strong point and bounce back years form a lot of guys spezza alfreddson and michalek....and injury free for the most part. |

And if I'm not, I clearly am the only one who think's he's not gonna be NHL ready next year. - mochoson
Ya and Hopkins will spend the whole year in junior and isn't good enough to make team canadas junior team. Scouts know what they're talking about he'll be in the NHL next year if we draft him |
