Detroit has a lot to offer for Gaustad. Are you trying to talk me into it? Done.
- keptupl8

What would you like from Detroit that could replace Gaustad??

I don't think they would give us a NHL roster player, and they don't have a 1st anymore. Most of their draft picks are always 25+ anyway.

The conversation is meaningless, too many differences exist between the eras. Yes, there was more concentration of talent at the time Orr played, but that talent was relative. You take a third line decent player in today's NHL with their conditioning, speed and power and put them in a standup goalie era and they would likely dominate. You can discount it on either side all day.

Instead, you could say that Lidstrom, like Orr, is one of the best defensemen ever to play the game. This is a true statement. Is Orr the best? Possibly.

Firing rubber at a goalie that didn't wear a mask certainly helped the goal totals too-
Orr was an incredible two-way guy.

Does Carter's hat trick last night make any Buffalo fan want him more than the .0000000000000000001% that currently do.

Without picking apart their roster, picks and prospects, Detroit has done a pretty good job of stocking talent at all levels in their organizations. I'm sure both teams could gain from the deal.

My original premise was trade him for something/anything, then sign the same deal they are working on now in July. If Gaustad is willing to stay and wants to help build a winner here, then take a few months off from being a Sabre and get some assets back to help build towards that goal. You picked Detroit. Sounds good to me.

You mean the guy with Jeff Carter as his Avatar?

yea. About that.

For whatever reason. I think the Sabres are gonna keep Roy and trade for another top 6 center. Might not be a bonafide #1 but another top 2 line center guy.

Detroit already sent away their 1st for Quincey. We can get a 1st for Gaustad and should hold out for one.

Sorry, D-troit.

The Pens just offered the Blues Tyler Kennedy, Eric Tangradi and a 3rd for Chris Stewart....

Some guy in another blog posted this... Don't know if it was his imagination or an actual offer.

I remember whispers that Regier was looking to trade for Vermette at last years deadline when we got Boyes instead.

As long as we don't have to play Gaustad again this year if they trade him I am fine with that.

I wouldn't mind him going and helping Nashville in the playoffs.

Maybe bring back one of their young centers or a 1st.

Don't mind his game and his price isn't terrible. Not sure if I would want to risk the 3 years remaining on his deal however.

We wouldn't have been happy with Vermette either.

He vanishes ever other year it seems and plays when he wants to.

When it is all said and done they will be compaired to each other like Mario and Gretz.

If you don't see that, thats your problem.

This is so far off the mark. It's hard to believe that someone could actually write this.

Vermette at $3.75 per year... NO THANKS.

We already have Leino, Boyes, and Stafford making that kind of money and being unproductive.

Yeah that's what I mean. He can be a solid player but like deadhead mentioned he goes invisible at times.
Buffalo is stuck with Leino so wouldn't want another one of those guys. At least he would be a legitimate center unlike Ville
