This is one of the funniest things I have ever read on here.
Bobby Orr is in a category Lidstrom himself only dreams of.

- Cometman

Don Cherry is that you? Lidstrom, like Orr is a generational player.

Agreed....

Chara will get is ugly ass in the HOF though.. IMO.... He may not deserve it.... but the balloters will think so...

- BuffaloKyle

The hardest shot competition will get him votes. It shouldn't, but it will sway enough to get him in if it's close.

It might not be close though. Bruins are stacked for the next few years, especially if Tuuka can carry the bulk of the games soon. Looks like he can. Chara could win another cup or two. He's only 34 and doesn't seem to breaking down. He could have 4 or 5 really good years left in him.

Look at the actual picture... No way a tiny scrawny petite little girl like that got blessed with I'm guessing 34D if not DD

Just saw that as well...not a terrible idea if the deal works...money and term. Goose plays hard and may not be as viable long term.

They both were Incredible Defenseman in two different Era's... If Lindstrom was in his prime in the 70's im sure he would of put up gawdy number's like 139 points in a season too...
- BuffaloKyle

This is even funnier than Dadeadheads comment. Lindstrom plays in a watered down NHL of 30 teams, Orr played with 12 to 16 teams in the league, who by the way played with 3 lines and 6 D and didn't have 5 to 6 health scratches.

Nicklas Lidstrom
NHL 1554 263 876 1139

Bobby Orr
NHL Totals 657 270 645 915

I think that's a fair price for what he does. I bet he would take that if he could get a longer term deal...4-5 years.

Depending on terms, ok good. He's a good piece of the puzzle, which is why he has value. You can definitely make the case for moving him for youth and picks, but if that's the case you will need to either replace him or tear the whole thing down leading into next year (including moving a number of Roy/Pommer/Vanek/Miller/etc).

I don't see the Sabres truly blowing this thing up, I don't. Why replace an asset when you can just resign what you currently have, I guess.

Not comparing the two as players, but why not do what the Blues did with Keith Tkachuk? Deadline deal, then resign July 1st. Sure we aren't going to get a player, 2 firsts, a 2nd and a 3rd... but get something for the future, give Gaustad a chance to learn something on a different team, and plug him right back in for next season.

Work out a deal, but don't sign it until summer.

The conversation is meaningless, too many differences exist between the eras. Yes, there was more concentration of talent at the time Orr played, but that talent was relative. You take a third line decent player in today's NHL with their conditioning, speed and power and put them in a standup goalie era and they would likely dominate. You can discount it on either side all day.

Instead, you could say that Lidstrom, like Orr, is one of the best defensemen ever to play the game. This is a true statement. Is Orr the best? Possibly.

My understanding is that the two sides are still pretty far apart.
