Funny how Giguère rebounds with a pretty good season after not playing under that guy. Gotta wonder if it's a coincidence...

Under RW's current style/preference of play, it is very very difficult for ANY goalie to have a low GAA.

That said, the current duo that employ the Leafs net, let in waaaaaay too many soft goals. And that you cannot blame on RW.

In mourning
- AdamFrench

Ive been mourning about the goalie situation for awhile. Thought that maybe a lot of people around here were right when they went on about Gus possibly taking over #1 role and that we arguably had two starters fighting for playing time. I said, well I dont agree but hopefully my mind will change.

There's no denying that a system can make or break a goalie.

Look at Halak pre-Hitchcock in St-Louis compared to Halak right now...

Yep and adding a guy like Lindback with the same numbers isn't the answer..
- Fruitcakenipple

nope...IMO, call me crazy if you want...but we should try and unload all the assets we've been discussing about with respect to Carter/Nash lately and go after a LEGIT goalie...like Miller for instance. A team who may need a rebuild and could use some assets. We need a legit goalie more than a number one center.

Plan B - Nabokov...hes got some vet leadership he could instill within Reimer for the long run, could be a short term improvemnet provided he dosnt cost too much.

Agreed.....Sure the system (frank)ed up but like Burke said himself yesterday 3 of the goals that went in last game have to be stopped...

yes...it went from having one leg over the "We have two good goalies" fence, to falling back on the "we possibly have one a good goalie in Reimer who could be molded, and need to get rid of Gus" fence.

we've actually battled during most games keeping them close and yet will always seem to lose leads or games because of weeak....weeeeeak goals. When either Gus or Reimer have really stood on their head, IMO, it was an entire team effort and not our goalie saving our butts...which we really need some nights.

Gomez is a goalie?

That would explain his poor offensive production.

The Leafs do have a young inexperienced team who has struggled with defense....they do have a coach where most fans cant seem to figure out what system hes using...fine. But no system nor coach can help a goalie make saves from 60feet that are going wide in over time when it really matters.

I'm just saying a coaching style can affect anyone, Look at Gomez since the new coach took over, he's on a tear.

If Gus had different shaped pads I bet he would of stopped that as well.

TSN quiz guys...not sure why that would be suggested...he could be a decent goalie, has played half decently...but a gamble again. No thanks.

I think, that the poor timing of these soft goals, has probably cost the team about 10 points........ also think that the few times they were outstanding in net, they may have saved us about 3-4 points. Net loss about 6 point.

In this day and age, 6 point swings is enormous.

Gus needs to play the butterfly position, have his stick square to the ice, both arms out and not move the entire game. Atleast then we'd have better odds of pucks hitting him.
