If we get mason, or any potential #1 via trade, we should deal some of our young goalies for something...no need in having 9 goalies spread over three levels...
- clarkysduster

I think Carter being moved will depend on Nash getting moved.. The only reason I say that is because Columbus needs goaltending. If they can move Nash to LA for Bernier + then Mason becomes a lot more expendable. I couldn't see Nash and Mason being included in the same deal but Carter + Mason makes sense to me lol

Leafs problems apart from not having a stable veteran GK, are basically described as follows:
- Phaneuf
- Lombardi
- Connolly
- Steckel
- Komisarek
- Armstrong
- Schenn

All of these with high caphits, low upsides.

Ridding these will enable the Leafs to solve the current issues, while maintaining a stable core of players that form the framework of a more successful team for the following years (Lupul-Kessel-Grabovski-Kulemin-MacArthur-Bozak-Brown-Gardiner-Franson-Liles-Gunarsson-Aulie). All young players with reasonable caphits - Grabovski will be resigned because he has earned it to stay in Toronto. Trading him will be a very negative message to the rest of the team: trading a guy that puts in his best effort and getting done what he is paid for, while keeping other guys (Komisarek-Steckel-Lombardi-Connolly etc.) that are just not helping out the Leafs team.

Yeah, I find wins a lot more entertaining than losses, no matter what "system" a team plays.
- Pecafan Fan

yup, and it still holds true.. look how the devils shut it down in the third last night.. the leafs got lucky on the kessel goal

and they only got that cause they finally played desperate.

So to summarize, this is our to-do list.

(in no particular order)

fire wilson

hire carlyle

trade for halak/bernier/nabokov/shooter-tutor

sign grabbo for 4.5 or less (or gtfo)

trade for carter and/or stewart

start on the whiskey early today

- clarkysduster

One of those has already been accompolished

I really dont know if Mason will be any better....what we need is a goalie we know we can depend/rely on...not another "possible" or "project".
- noename09

How many dependable goalies are available right now? Nabokov? He's 36 and UFA at season end.. Low cap hit and wont be cheap.. I don't know. I'd take Mason all day.

There was a lot of rumours floating around yesterday about Det having the offer on the table for Grabovski (Dreger said a team had an offer in last week that consisted of a 2nd and a top prospect) I would make sense having him go there since he has such close ties with Zetterberg and Datsyuk (they train together in the off season)
- grim1911

give us datsyuk and we give them kessel and 2nd rd

I hear ya...and as BAD as its been, I dont see Burke doing anything about it. Which pisses me off. Because I think its a bigger need than a number one center.

My list as per the start of summer was

1. Vet/dependable Goalie
2. No.1 Center
3. Coach

Hasnt changed.

Ya know, I was thinking that the only way this Nash situation is probably going to be settled is something like a NBA trade. You get like 3 or 4 teams together, they all put their available assets on the table, and you start swaping until something makes sense for all the teams at the table.

If CBJ is serious about wanting all the pieces that the rumours seem to claim, can't see it being done any other way.

Grabo is a very streaky type of player........ shows brilliance and then disappears.

Plenty of those types around, they usually all pan out to be 60 pt. scorers. Not worth a dime more than 4 million a year. Never mind what Connolly is making, that is not the barometer here. Kessel makes 5.4 million, and Grabo is no where near his level. Not a franking dollar more than 4 million otherwise GTFO.

We need a solid goalie. I will settle for a average goalie for the remainder of the season.

- faceto27

In the offensive zone, yes, but defensively, he's consistently good. Same with Kulemin and why he's not in the dog house for not producing offensively.

When Burke first started with the Leafs he kept saying that he would make sure they were a tough team to play against... Hard hitting, fighting.. entertaining hockey.. To me the hardest hitting forward we have is KULEMIN!! -- Armstrong has been a bust (injuries) How about we go out there and grab some playoff type guys who win battles (Ott, Moen, Morrow etc)

nolonger...youre "considered" common law when living together for a year, but in order for the other to have "legal" rights against you etc, its 2+ years I believe.

we are a fast, talented group...but we are also young, somewhat soft, and inexperienced. We are about 3 upgrades away from being a playoff team, and 2 years away from developing into a contender, IMO.

Ill be honest, I didnt expect TOO MUCH different for this year, but this goaltending issue has always killed me. The team struggles at times, they make mistakes and they learn as a team. But when the team battles to get you back into the game and its lost in OT from wide shot on net from the blueline....that just "Grinds my gears".
