Nowhere did i say that we don't need a #1 center. But you have to consider how that player will fit onto your team. If this was NHL 12 then i wouldn't argue but there are serious risks involved with Carter. Any long-term injury would (frank) us over, 10-years is A LOT of time and so far not too many contracts of that length have worked out...., Carter has been known to party like mad and that has caused problems on his other teams.

Don't get me wrong, i think he is a hell of a player and i am all for giving the guy a chance. He is older and may have matured....the issue i have is us trading away major assets for a guy on an albatross contract. In the off-season we can try to sign Parise, trade for several other #1 centers, etc.

Obviously if the rumors of Schenn + 2nd for Carter are true, then you have to rethink the deal...but why the hell would Columbus be looking to dump a guy they just traded for last summer for Schenn + 2nd....AND the leafs get Johansen in return? That deal smells bad

Parise will be an albatross contract. Any player can be injured. the 10 yr contract is only an issue if he is healthy and playing badly. If he is injured, he's not on the cap. This is not nearly as big an issue as everyone thinks it is.

So Gunnarson is a depth d-man? Colborne and Percy are middle of the road prospects? a pick in the 13-20 range is not worth anything anymore?
Everything you guys are saying about Komi, we used to say about Hal Gill too when he was here, yet somehow Old Man Fletcher moved him for a 2nd round pick.

mid round picks do count for something, and yes.. colborne i see topping out as a second line centre.. percy as a 3 or 4 d-man

all i am saying is columbus could get more than that for carter. its my belief, i could be easily wrong.. all opinion man.

Interesting... Not sure how they can package both of those guys together with Grab being UFA.. Columbus wouldn't be interested.. only a team being in a playoff position would be... well unless it involves seperate deals?!

two quick comments

1. i hope look schenn gets traded. i look forward to seeing a good hardworking kid reach his potential, because it won't happen here.

2, many people (myself included) has been on the bernier train....but to be honest, i'm just going off hype i've read on the internet. i've never seen him play. so i officially take my hat out of the bernier ring and put it in the ring of prayer...

Kaberle was an All star PMD, Grabo is a second line centre.

That was Chiarelli doing Burke a solid since neither expected the first Kessel pick to be #2 overall.

Gunnar is top 4 in my books, big defensively responsible, great wheels decent passer. Even if he never gets 30 points he'll log a lot of minutes for us. He also pairs well with everyone.

connoly is over paid and signed for two years.. and is UFA at the end of next season.. not what columbus is looking for.

At this rate, I see Percy topping out as a cautionary tale...

You know, I was discussing the same thing with a friend yesterday regarding that deal. We all know how Burke feels about signing RFA's, and when he went after Kessel that is what Kessel was. So I'm thinking that he basically told Chiarelli that lets avoid the messy RFA thing, i'll give you the two firsts and a second, this way it goes down as a trade. You in turn owe me a biggie.

Conolly is a contract to even out salaries. He can play center for Nash until Johanssen/Colbourne/Brassard or whoever is ready to step in. I think this package is similar to Voracek and Couturier
